I played this one until I got the tribbles on board. I was not aware that you can kill them by flying close to the Sun(and the Star Trek reference). All I saw that my savegame of a week or two of playing time was ruined(yes, only one save slot at that time) and I was so angry that I deleted the game. Obviously an error. But thst Was before you could check the Internet for hints. In factory there was a fairly nice industry publishing hintbooks back at that time...

I suppose it is easier to see enemy ships, obstacles, etc, than in the "Wing Commander Privateer" world, but the wire frame graphics reminded me of the original Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It's mass locked. Whenever there is a certain mass in the vicinity (i.e. ship), you can't jump. Ergo you need to "clean" the space around you. Or wait.

Elite Dangerous is both a sequel and a remake. The ships from the original Elite games are treated as antique historical ships in Elite Dangerous.

E:D is Elite 4 from original author. There was also Elite 2 (Frontier) and a bit more advanced Elite 3 (Frontier: First Encounters).

Jameson Memorial, a starport orbiting founders world in shinrarta dezhra is named after the default player name from this "Jameson" You can have cockpit buddies, those things that you put on the dash just to rock back and forth. They actually resemble the ships from this game. The starter systems from this game can be found in E:D (LAVE for example) and the shape of the constelation they form is exactly the same

Right on Commander! o7 "A Few Hours Later". I'd be interested how many is this "few hours" here, because if it's 2 hours that would mean pretty solid flight, and if it's 1½ hours or so that would be great run (assuming you played without pauses in single session). If "few hours" is less then 1h15mins (play time in video to Elite promotion is 4:30-1:34:23 = 1:29:57) you would be unofficially "Archangel" (i.e. From start to Elite in less then 3h) what comes to speedrunning in this game, as well as very close the speedrun record for the Elite promotion. Anyway, nice to see there are still commanders playing this old good and fast version of the classic game. :) My already years old speedrun record from the start of game at Lave to Elite promotion at Riedquat (~2h 43mins): kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4TIoICkbZelrdU I've been waiting the day to come when someone else comes public with adequate video to proof new record flight. I think something 2h 30mins - 2h 35mins would be possible to achieve. -N.I.

For note and addition to above comment. The speedrun record is currently 2 hours 6 minutes 4 seconds, and it is certain that sub-2h times are possible to achieve. Current record: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3-ak41pj6emiKs (for those whom might be interested). Lack of fellow Elite Plus speedrunners however hinder seriously further attempts to better the record.

@@elitemegaweed6492 At the point i cut my recording "few hours later" it took me total 3-4 hours to archive the elite. There we're times just boring flight without any kills, so i just skipped the boring parts.

@@thriftweeds Ok. Good flight. It took several years from me to make new records, but few months ago I managed to break it twice within a week. It seems now that further cuts from a run time and making it under 2 hours requires an use of so called 'Viper Tactics', in practice rinse and repeat style massacre of police Vipers (preferably at Leesti) using Aft mining lasers. Also, the start of the run needs to be somewhere around 10 minutes (to get necessary minimum equipment: Aft Mining Laser, ECM System, and Extra Energy Unit)... That tactics is both extremely boring, but also very dangerous, usually lethal, as you need to maintain full concentration all the time. Simple game, and easiest Version of Classic Elite can be extremely demanding when speedrunning to 'ELITE'. That's not just ramming - a missile is fired just before ramming, then all the cargo is scooped at once.
