Lining a ditch with rip rap. Back at the berm job and I'm cleaning up around the end of a culvert and placing rip rap in the ditch. I stripped the grass off around the pipe and reshaped the ditch where it would be easier to mow along and stop it from eroding. There is not a ton of water that comes through this pipe but it will definitely be easier to maintain with the rip rap. Also Dad and Devon spread seed and straw over all the dirt areas while I was working a new driveway. They got it down before the rain got there so hopefully in a few weeks we will have some grass. This site looks a lot better and will be much easier to mow now. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #riprap

This ought to help that ditch drain. I Was curious if that other culvert was plugged? Couldn’t tell while watching it on my phone… but, I wondered about that when you found it buried. Did you see the rip-rap job on 44th street, east of the new traffic circle? They used rock the size of kitchen sinks. It looks like they just started backing trucks up and tried to tailgate them in. Wherever they fell they left them. Mowing will be a pita! This really dressed up the job nicely… kind of like putting on your best shirt & jeans to go out and… turns out the beer was cold and the steak was tender! I guess we’ll see this again when you mow… I might drive by before that just to peek!

Interesting to use rocks for rip rap. The technique I am familiar with used bags of concrete mix or articulated blocks set down over the ditch. It is amazing how you can work in dirt and are able to use your excavator with a flat edge bucket like a Gradall. Our ditches usually cut through coral rock so they don't erode much. but shrubs and trees grow in them and stop flow, and sediment fills them in. How do you keep things from growing in the rock you placed? Geofabric or weed blocker does help, but somehow weeds still get in the rocks and take over, then lots of poison is used to control them. Since that looks like limestone it should lock together and resist flowing away when water comes through. You made a big improvement over what was on that land before.
@eliteearthworksllc
@eliteearthworksllc 2 жыл бұрын
That’s cool! Yeah this is our rip rap technique here. We usually just have to spray the areas to keep the weeds outs. The fabric helps but stuff will actually start to grow on top of the fabric so it’s almost pointless

Very sharp - my son said it looked like a Roman road! And I can never get over your pride of workmanship - evening up the sides by hand (like it should be) and making it right. This should be standard procedure for the industry but we all know better. Now all you have to do is a video putting in that new bed liner, LOL!

What town is it in? I'll send the video to their code department. If you put a roof on a house on private property do you need a permit? Of course The "PRIVATE PROPERTY" rebuttal is amateur. Anything related to bringing in fill, adding in riprap or working near a culvert pipe, 99& requires a permit.

I like the Rip Rap as we know!!! This looks so much better and I can definitely see where it will be easier to maintain. Was definitely worth a couple or 3 of days work. The next few years will be a break even due to fewer hours needed to mow the place each time. Maybe,,,,,. Regardless,,, it share makes it look like a nice field vs like just an empty lot. That goes a long ways to making the area nicer like the city wants.
