this was single handedly the best table talk I've heard. I came up in the PLUSA days reading everything JM ever wrote and ran into him at a few meets and was just listening to him talk to others. It's great to know not much has changed. Everything he said on this podcast was a 101 in life and a true enlightening. Thank You EFS Thank you JM

Not a power lifter but a general fitness lifter and football coach and absolutely love these podcasts. This is one of the best things I have ever heard for just coaching and self help advice period. For sure this one will be one I listen to numerous times. Would love to hear more from JM, excellent content!

When I started lifting in the mid 80s I was talking to an older guy with a big bench (500x5) raw and he told me "on the bench the biceps are the brakes and the triceps are the gas, both are equally important to train"

JM seems like such an awesome, knowledgeable dude. His voice is almost comforting. I imagine that with that soft tone, and the stuff that comes out, when he talks, everyone gets quite and listens. I would love that type of power.
@jojoinks2 жыл бұрын
The craziest thing about this is JM's discernment between what is "truth" vs what is "useful": how he'd trade something that is useful for something that is truth. The best part is when you realize that that is what he is doing with the visualization part of this talk. Visualization isn't about what is true, and it isn't necessarily about what will be true, but it is about finding ways to make your thoughts useful. If you make your thoughts work for you, thus making them "useful," you can make what you want to be true.

I have to say, I'm not really an elite level athlete. Nor will I ever be, or try to be. I train to stay healthy and feel better about myself. Lifting weights, in the end, isn't something really that important to me currently. But there's something in the way they talk about things in this podcast that applies to anything else just as well. This somehow feels very universal. I'm starting my studies at uni this fall, and a lot of things they discussed here resonated very deeply. Thanks for bringing out content like this for everybody to watch, completely free of charge.

There are many takeaways from this. I’ve been able to chat with JM a couple of times and I don’t think I fully appreciated the knowledge I was getting. I think my own distractions played the largest role in that. Anyhow, this is great I hope he keeps getting his thoughts out there.

I somehow skipped the intro or something and wound up an hour in where you're getting into "who am I?" And this may be the single best podcast I've ever listened to. This is incredible. Most people live life from the perspective of, "if I have these things I'll do these things and then I'll be happy" it's "have, do, be." If you look at life from the perspective of "the person I choose to be would do these things which will inevitably lead me to have these things." Choosing to be something as a possibility to live into is what gives you who you are, and who you are as possibly gives you your life. Who I am is the possibility of power, love, and freedom. In choosing that as my present and possibility, I make choices that someone being those things would choose and that leads me to do what I do and have what I have. Being present to that creates the life that I want to live instead of me chasing a person that just isn't me. This podcast really got me present to that mindset again. Thank you guys.

Dave and Elite FTS- these table talk podcasts with the Westside legends are awesome for those of us that tried to follow Westside from afar. Please continue to do these as the Westsiders shaped a generation of lifters who still want to know what happened to everyone and how they are doing now- Much like the annual Sports Illustrated issue Where are they now? Please try to get Mike Ruggerio, Chuck V, George Halbert, Joe McCoy, Todd Brock, Chester Stafford, Jerry O, you get it....

Thanks Dave and team, you hit it out of the park with this one. The most challenging part about JM is working out why he bothered pursuing the goals he did, because he is a very different beast to the average lifter, or even the average educator. Either way, I'll be putting this podcast into my thinking moving forward.

I have been lifting weights since the 1980's. So that's now over 40 years. I have strained muscles, get shoulder aches, knee aches, and back aches. Enjoyed every hour of it. 👍🏽 I'm not a Powerlifter but I know who these guys are. 😁 When people ask me why I am still lifting at 54 years old. I always say because I enjoy it. Do you have something that you have enjoyed doing for 20, 30, or 40 years ?. I enjoyed listening to all 3 hours of this podcast a ton.

I remember this first bench shirt I used was a single ply Inzer back in 1980's and you really didn't get a lot out of the shirt. Fast forward to 2000 I used a Super-duper Phenom and realized how far the technology has come. The shirt will add strength to you bench but until you master the ability to use the shirt it will push you all over the place.

Great approach, seems to be a great coach. Very motivational. I"m 78 next mo., I"m inspired by what he said to continue my weight and my arm wrestling training with his approach. And, imo, he's far more about life goals and focus than just about strength training.
