From my 20's to my 30's I was a heavy duty fanatic. My mind was made up and closed, made a lot of progress and then started getting injured and burned out and quit. Started training again at 40 something and found John Meadows...passed my prime I have made more gains by all the great information from John and Dave and now Mike. Awesome table talk!!!! Love ya Dave! Mike!

The not counting specific reps with clients! I thought i was the only one! Great to be validated on that one. The effect on the lifter is more important.

What i've found in the few years ive been going down the path of learning hypertrophy for the benefit of powerlifting, is that once you become conciously aware of all those muscles and how to use them each specifically, it almost "reduces" your top strength initially. Basically you start thinking and actually feeling multiple things too much and it distracts from the singular neurological focus thats so beneficial for a compound lift. I think I've got it fixed now, but we'll see how it goes 🤷‍♂️ could just be me though lol

Mike is one of my favorite coaches. He really drives home the point of "do the basics." I also support the idea that people get too focused in the nuance of whichever discipline they train in, instead of just figuring out what works for them and enjoying themselves. I often try to drive this home to alot of the athletes I get to coach and it's hard for them to accept. It was hard for me to accept coming up too (as if I'm soooo experienced 😂). Lift weights, grill steaks, eat cake. 🫡 good stuff guys!

If bodybuilders want to deadlift FOR bodybuilding then they should see the Dorian Yates technique. If you dedicate some time refining that for your body type it will do the job.

The problem is there aren't enough good trainers around. I think most people want to lift properly but just lack good instruction. Many so called internet instructors and gym instructors are absolutely terrible.

It’s really strange how guys like this so deep into powerlifting don’t really know anything about bodybuilding at all 😂 Dorian Yates has said in pretty much literally every interview ever that he’s never done high volume ever he didn’t even start lifting weights until he was like 21 or something after reading all of Arthur Jones and Mike Mentzers books. He literally never did high volume ever I don’t understand how you can even get this wrong unless all you know is something you heard from someone who made it up.
@nicholashammontree6653
@nicholashammontree6653 10 ай бұрын
I felt the same way as I was getting into the nuance of bodybuilding from powerlifting. What I found was that the difference isnt just volume, its intent, what youre focusing on during the lift and "how" you are executing the lift for your purpose. It's taken way more time to figure out than I imagined lol
@johnsambo9379

Arthur Jones was a quack. Most of his methods have been debunked. The athletes he had at his compound were already world class bodybuilders and were doing volume on the side. Plus being juiced to the gills is the only way to recover from HIT. Dorian even admits he went way to heavy and hard. That's why he had so many injuries.
@johnsambo9379

@DavenportBarbell Not true. Dorian starting working out in jail with volume. He even stated he got really strong and jacked in jail before ever starting HIT. His body was a super responder to steroids and volume before ever starting HIT.
@DavenportBarbell
@DavenportBarbell 10 ай бұрын
@@johnsambo9379 he said he did a circuit training routine in jail and naturally had a great physique without even working out. I don’t know how you’d call 3 circuits volume
