As a black american person of color mixed with 33% European 2% South Asian and 4% Egyptian/Moroccan/Tunisian Arab I've never seen hair like this. I naturally have 2B at the most 2C hair after its soaken wet and dried. The front part of my hair naturally dries bone straight like white or hispanic people's hair the middle front is wavy and the thickest is in the middle at the back where its the waviest is not dense or coarse. I've always said black women should wear their own hair their natural beauty is the most beautiful. But I didn't know some of their hair was this much of a problem. Because black american women have always either straightened their hair with perms hair dryers or curling irons or since mid late 2000s worn wigs or weaves

I see now why black people make such a big deal about hair texture and why they rather just throw a wig on or permanently damage their scalp sowing weaves in. And where the word "good" hair is coming from. It looks like this type of hair would be a pain in the ass to deal with. We can see you cant even wash or comb your hair without a huge headache. I see why some probably wouldn't want to deal with it at all to where hygiene is bad when it comes to not washing or combing for months and years. I just get up and easily comb my straight wavy hair everyday. Never thought their were people out there who can't do that even if they tried. I also now see why I get so many stares from everybody not just black people. And why some insecure people with this type of hair would be jealous of some others with hair that's the complete opposite. And treat them differently.

My mother who has a half white half black grandmother and black asian mixed grandfather used to get so picked on when she was younger that she ended cutting her own long naturally straight hair off.. that went down to her butt.. because darker skin kids would bully her so much about it. When I see people like this with this type of 4C hair I see why insecure ones would target her like they did

Hey Crystal, first let me preface this by saying some stylists wouldn't have touched your client's hair because of the way it looked. Hell, they wouldn't have touched it. But that's what set you apart from them too. You are a true fighter, that's that Cancer spirit and for those who doesn't know what that is; we as Cancers, we nurture, we fight, we protect, and we give love on all levels. Crystal that's exactly what you did for your client. You didn't give anyone room to speak negatively about her and the condition of her hair, thank you. I'm not surprised but many would be. You gave that lady a new life! You could see it before the end. At first she had a serious face, a protective face and then those eyes got bright as she saw that you were winning. Although she had a mask on you could see the HUGE smile on her face and I smiled with her! The end was nothing but a blessing and she was shining. I loved it! ❤

She wakes up a hot mess. Matting over night. I've noticed that braids have massively helped with that. I frequently lose things I struggle with finding her bonnet. I also just recently ordered her a couple zip up silk pillowcases off if Amazon. I'm sure you may have heard this before, if you haven't now now you have (?). 4c hair is absolutely beautiful& I'm sure it's a lot of work. What an eye opener! I have long white girl hair. It’s fine but dense so I’m always running a brush or comb through it to keep it tamed down. I have to tell you, black girl hair is crazy. It takes dedication. Never, ever did I understand and appreciate the time and treatment involved to keep it healthy and beautiful. Also someone mentioned depression was a reason for not caring for the scalp to keep it detangled. I could see that. I do a 2 minute serum massage treatment nightly then up in a pony with a silk scrunchie. That’s it. So major kudos to you girls and all the time and care you dedicate to your hair care every single day! Girl, you are a miracle worker on these clients hair. The finished style is beautiful. I can’t comment enough. You have amazing talent and are such a good educator!

I have hair a lot like this lady’s, 4C+ and natural, and it wants to revert at all times regardless of heat or gel used- so after any smoothing or heat, I hit it with a blast of cool air from the hair dryer if I am serious about the way it lays. I haven’t used heat in a long time tho. I’m not saying my hair looks THIS good (this stylist is so good at what she does!). Just that it’s less frustrating when I use cool air immediately after each curl, etc.

It's always important to detangle the hair with oil and conditioner before Shampooing so that it doesn't cause even more matting.I learned that a while ago. When you wet tangles, they kind of clinch even more together like you said in the video.

I don’t know what 4 abc my hair is but I like it natural and my hair is not a ‘beast’ I know how my hair was meant to be styled and I style accordingly. I wear my hair in small twists. My thick hair comes out like Egyptian style hair. It bounces and moves in its twist because that’s how it is happy❤. African hair was meant to protect us from sun burn and insects. European hair needed oil to hold in heat to their scalp. Hair is environment appropriate. The fact that we don’t acknowledge this means our minds are colonized. I think 🤔 if you like a look 👀 you should go for it but my hair is just fine for me and hundreds of thousands of black Americans and Africans. Just like Europeans like their hair, I like mine❤. You worked very hard to make her African hair look European and give her the style she wanted.

I can definitely sympathize with her client, I have 4c coily/curly hair texture as well and for more than 30 years I kept it relaxed and when the new growth would show even a little bit, I had to hit it with a hot comb just to get by, and I never had any hair loss. After a while I got tired of the process and in 2002 I decided to go natural, starting with extension braid to grow out the perm, then cornrows, twists, and finally I Loc'd my hair in 2003 and its been that way ever since and I couldn't be happier!!

Yeah...I am 4c as well...it reverts back immediately. My new growth only appeared to be matted when I was relaxed. It will also break from the end when you're relaxed bc 4c hair is not meant to be relaxed...the new growth is too thick. Now that I'm natural, the matting effect at the roots has left the building bc my hair is the same texture throughout. 4c is very complex especially when you try to work against the grain...

I have to disagree. The part about 4C hair not wanting to be relaxed and breaking from the end just bc there is a relaxer is untrue. I have 4C hair, I am relaxed, my hair is almost bra strap length, full of texture and has heavy density. For my 4C relaxed hair, I have found you have to keep the ends moisturized really well and seal the ends with oil just like naturals. I have found that the ends breaking on my 4C relaxed hair is a result of a lack of moisture, it dries out quickly at the ends. I also get my hair professionally done by a certified cosmetologist, and my hair is relaxed less than 5 times a year. So I’ve found you just have to find the balance.

I have 4c hair. It's ultra-fine so it never got on well with relaxer. I think they just over-processed my hair most of the time. It never had any volume in it. It's natural now but I might relax it as a shortcut in the future. My hair breaks and knots too easily for me to grow hair past my shoulders. My mom's hair never grew past the shoulders but my sister has butt crack length natural hair. My mom treated all of our hair the same growing up but my sister always grew past her shoulders from childhood.

Ditto. 💯 I'm an old hedd and had been getting relaxers since about age 6. Always had a decent length but I've been natural more than 10 years. Ouch. It's has been like self punishment . Grateful tho that I have hair - 4C and all. So many ppl my age suffer alopecia. 😞

@@marleyhill34 I totally can relate. My hair appears to be full and thick, but is actually fine. So yes, many people tend to over process our hair which leads to the breakage etc. The best advice I ever got from a stylist was to go natural bc my hair definitely didn't thrive while relaxed. She actually saved my hair in so many ways just by recommending that one thing to me.

@@dailytestimony4994 I hated going to the salon for maintenance and they never gave me a strong protein treatment either. no wonder my hair was so limp...just steam treatments! It was probably over-moisturised. lol! Now I go get my trim every 12 weeks and not feel stressed about it.

I don't have the same hair type, but I know a lot of us neglect ourselves when we're depressed, busy, unwell. I gave myself a short haircut (short enough not to get fairy knots or huge knots) as I felt depression coming on. Preemptive haircut. 😂 I came out the other end without huge matting, thankfully. This was a couple years ago, and it really helped me preserve my hair health.

I understand the depression all too well. I hope you’re feeling better. I I also suffer with major depression and prior to Covid was gojng through very hard times. Depression kept worsening and I stopped caring for myself, and had no idea my straight fine hair could matt so horribly when I’d given up and wasn’t washing it at all for months! I’ve been so ashamed of myself and I feel so embarrassed and worthless because it DID HAPPEN TO ME! I’ve still got this enormous hunk of hair on the very top of my head nearly matted completely to my scalp. I’ve been tryjng to get it loosened for almost 2 FULL WEEKS now!! I’ve tried everything I’ve read and so many products and it will not budge! I won’t let anyone see me and I’ve not been able to leave the house. it’s that BAD! Not even a cap or hoodie or anything will disguise it now if I could find someone to help me! I’m so desperate right now and it’s nobody’s fault but mine. I hate myself for allowing this to happen. I’ve only told a couple people who don’t understand depression at all. One said I was so lazy I deserved it. Omg I’ve been so upset 😭 and don’t know what else to do. This is the most awful thing I’ve ever done to myself and I’m not young. This is destroying me. I wish the very best for you! ❤

@@Symnsn Oh, darling! First off, here's a hug from a fellow human who cares about you. 🫂 Secondly, it's OK and it's SUPER SUPER common. Your age doesn't matter! I'm a mother of three with a teenager! We're going to remain human beings until we leave the planet, so there's no point in expecting yourself to stop having human weaknesses and tendencies! Try going to a hairdresser and asking for help. If your budget won't allow it, look for a beauty school in your area, and speak with the trainers there. Maybe it could be a special project for one of their students. She could list it on her resume. You may inspire someone there to specialize in these cases (there are MANY) or to volunteer time. YWin, win. Be gentle with yourself. Would you ever be so hard on someone else who's going through a tough time? You deserve a loving parent, and you can be that parent to yourself. Say it in the mirror. "Nancy, honey, I'm so sorry you're sad. But, you're not alone. I love you, and I'll take care of you."

@@Symnsn hey i just thought i'd say that you're not the only one going through this. its not your fault. you're not lazy, and you shouldn't hate yourself for letting this happen to you. at the end of the day, life can take over at times, we just have to push through as best as we can even if that means neglecting ourselves along the way. keep pushing, hope all gets sorted out :)
