I got my first relaxer at the age of 12 and stayed relaxed until I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2022. I always wanted to go natural, but refused to start over since I had no choice and lost my hair with chemo. It works, so let's see how it goes. So far, I have about two inches of new hair.

I was relaxed since I was 6 until 26 when I didn't know I couldn't also dye my hair, so when my hair broke off I went bald and natural for the first time. Hated it at first but fell in love with my hair and learned so much about it. Did it for 2.5 years but relaxed again and my hair grew a ton. now at 33 I'm thinking of going natural again now that I have better knowledge and feel more mentally stable to look after my hair. that was a big part of why I relaxed again. Lower maintenance for me. I don't have a negative view of either side, both are beautiful but not everyone has the patience for natural hair and that's okay. Frankly I can't stand the relaxer hate train...like, I'm sorry YOUR hair broke off but some people do just fine with them. Not all natural hair is healthy either. People pick and choose way too much what they wanna suddenly be afraid of chemicals over, but they smoke, drink, bleach their hair every month, eat all types of foods, put all types of chemicals on their body. I got my first relaxer on graduating from high school. And I've had stretches of natural hair and relaxed. I see a relaxer as an option....stick to recommendations and instructions and relax currently at a salon no more than three times per year. It helps me personally as I have thick fine 4C hair and sometimes I need a break. It is healthier now as I do not have low iron levels as I did when I was younger. Thankfully God has kept me cancer free so that I may be about his business. I don't know what tomorrow holds for anyone but I pray God keeps us all in His will. Blessings.

Took them out one day washed my hair and then walked down the street to a barber shop and told the barber to cut off all the relaxed hair and even go an inch lower to make sure we got all the chemical treated hair. I've been natural 22 years always wanted to be despised my looks with a relaxer. My hairs thick it always looked like an old lady wig not to mention the sores of burning and having my scalp tore up 😔😔😔😔 I loved braids puffy ponys I wanted natural when natural wasn't a thing anymore. I crimped my hair with two strand before it was fab. I wore locs knots and it's been a fun ride . I was 8 or 9. My mom let it grow out. I wore my hair natural until the 6th or 7th grade, then I had a curl. I was in the 10th grade when I went back to a relaxer. I started doing my own relaxers, occasionally going to the hairdresser until I had my son. Then, in 2006, I went natural again for 2.5 years. There were no products I could use to wear anything other than braids. I wore a relaxer until 2020. This time, I solely relaxed my hair myself, but faithful kept it trimmed. I guess with Covid, bordem, and better natural haircare products, I am natural again. My hair is so thick that all I wear is an afro. I miss having a relaxer when it comes to styling, and sometimes think about relaxing my hair again. I will however go to a salon.

Yes the choice is up to the client. I’ve been natural then permed my hair at 16yrs. I continued keeping it permed for years. Then I went natural for about 5 yrs and then I decided to perm. Now I am transitioning again. I will be completely natural next December . After I permed it this last time I wanted my natural hair back.

17 first perm, was like you, fast paste, and the Edges are last. Husband did my first perm, and never turned back. My hairs strong 💪🏾 but now 68, so not like before. I use a detainger, conditioner, oil (I make) moisturizer, and porosity, not necessary this order, but it works for me. I stay away from excessive Heat at all times. Good Job . Quarter size curler ..

My question is what is the difference between virgin relaxer and vegan relaxer because I've been natural since 2018. This video is a great example of cutting hair into a great shape the first time instead of doing a bare minimum trim. Cause we know there's always that one commenter that will say just do a U shape or just take off a quarter of an inch. 😏 The client has a great, solid foundation to work with and it's only up from there.

I was relaxed from age 9 to 33. I went natural March 2015. My hair is very thick 4c texture. While relaxed my hair never got past my collarbone. One stylist used super strength relaxer and broke off a whole section of my hair. I had scabs every time I got a relaxer. Now my hair is down to my bra strap (I did my second big chop Aug 2020) When I grew it out the first time it grew past my bra strap. I doubt I will go back to a relaxer. My hair thrives without it.

Why do people say their hair is so much thicker in it’s natural state? Curly appears thicker because it’s curly. Being natural doesn’t change the density of your hair it’s the texture that changes from curly to straight. If you silk press your natural hair you will see it has the same thickness.🤷🏾‍♀️

I was 12 years old when my mom first decided to relax my hair. I went natural at age 31 and the last time I had a relaxer was in April 2005. I have now been natural for 18 years. I never want to relax again.

I was 7 for my first relaxer . I stopped back in 2019,. my hair came out when I was 16 . My cousin was still using drugs and I didn’t realize how bad it effects your body, he did my sister’s relaxer’s as well, but mine was the only one to come out. I also lost hair at the ages of 12, ( swimming) 5 , and 29 after getting chemo. God is an AWESOME God , praise God for Healing and Recovery!!

Relaxers aren’t meant to give you bone straight results. If it does the hair is over processed. Relaxers are only meant to relax the curl hence the name relaxer

I have never gotten a relaxer done to my hair because my hair is naturally long and straight/wavey but I have given women relaxers way back when I was in cosmetology school. I loved working on women of color because I was really good with their hair especially their natural hair. I especially loved using a flat iron and the women loved their hair because their hair turned out so silky, shiny and straight and it would stay that way longer as long as they didn't get it wet and they wrapped it every night before bed. I also loved styling their edges after all what is a hairstyle without nice edges?

I got my first relaxer at age 21, growing up I would get press & curl until I was an adult. I decided to go natural when I was 53 years old which only lasted 1 year then covid hit so I was natural for 1 year & 6 months but soon went back to a relaxer which is what's best for me cause I couldn't deal with the natural hair!

Have been relaxed since a kid and went natural in 2015 because of the hype. I've always had long hair, so that wasn't the goal and I didn't even do a big chop. Well, I'm tired of wearing wigs and I hate that nappy or curly "fight the power" wash and go look. I want my hair back and what I used to look like pre-2015! It's Team Relaxer for me moving forward. 😆
