I am 66 now, but I remember in 1983 when I first broke 3 hrs in Vancouver. Of course I cried, I was totally exhausted, I could hardly get out of bed the next day, and yes it was one hell of an accomplishment but man this is off planet. There are certain gifts handed out by above, Kipchoge got that gift. Wow! I still run today to stay fit, and enjoy my runs. But I can only imagine basically sprinting for 26.2 miles. Like I said, off planet. My favourite athlete.....Simon Whitfield. When he made his kick in the final 800 metres, that was also off planet.

What so amazing about a 'record' that is the result of conditions not seen in real races and using artificial aids developed by Nike ? I was delighted first at the sub 2 hour, but now it leaves a sour taste
@ravendarkjolls40284 жыл бұрын
@@amblincork lol the point is the possibility of humans breaking the 2 hour mark and he did achieve that. Actual races is not the only reality and about the shoe, well innovation and adaptation through technology will always be the essence of humanity. I don't think anybody can replicate what he did given the same conditions save except possibly Bekele.
@jeighlynn26675 жыл бұрын
It was never about the World Record but something more significant than that. Long after we are all dead, and the sub 2 has been replicated, people will always remember the first man(Kipchoge) that broke the sub 2 barrier. Indeed it is a moment like no other even like the first man, Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon.
