I have used Elixer strings exclusively for about 7 years now, ever since I first tried them, and I have now switched to the Optiwebs after I tried them when they 1st became available. They are brighter and more natural sounding then the nanoweb or polyweb, but they last just as long. With any coated string you will lose a bit of the brightness of non-coated strings, but if you play 20+ hours a week like I do and have several guitars, the longevity and smooth feel is a more then fair trade off.

Are The optiweb brighter than the nanoweb???

Tom, you are always thorough with any review you do, I especially love that you related this back to the polyweb and the nanoweb strings. Your attention to detail is always greatly appreciated!

I totally agree with Tom. I have been a Nanoweb player for years and in the beginning the new strings felt a little strange. Now, I quite like them. And they seem to stay "fresh" just as long.

I've used elixir strings for 15 years but I clicked because your guitar caught my eye! It's stunning!

Great review! (as always … ) I was very curious about these, and based on your input, I'll stay with Nanowebs, as I incorporate all kinds of styles and tones in my jazz playing. Thanks for all your thoughtful work, Tom.

I have used nanowebs for many years, but recently got a new guitar that came with uncoated strings. I am actually working my way through your Legado course, and found the uncoated strings respond more to slight pull offs because they seem to grip a little bit better on the fingers. Curious what your thoughts are.

Depending on cost I may shake these out. I like the Elixir brand of strings.

I don't know why i break string too quick,i put 11's nanoweb on my Gibson les paul and 10's on my strat they last me 1 month other brand uncoated last me more than 3 months,maybe elixir doesnt handle lots of bends like i'll do

My problem with elixir polyweb has been the lack of grounding with the player (due to the costing on the low strings). I suppose these aren't different in that sense.

I wanna know just if Optwebs are more light for bends and vibratos.... that’s all ...

Does anyone find that the outer layer of metal wears out on the frets and becomes super grippy with bends and vibrato? or do I just grip too hard?

I prefer the feeling of Elixir's coated strings. Tone isn't the only factor for me. Hope that's ok by you....lol

Never liked coated strings as they sound harsh and feel harder. I’ve yet to be convinced by the double the price gimmicks of string makers. I put D’Addario XLs on a Tele, they sound great, then later I put on Elixers, do they sound twice as good? No they sound awful!
@tomwest10144 жыл бұрын
I agree I think daddario make the best quality strings in the world and I would love to use them if it wasn't for my sweaty palms that rot strings within 3 days. Sure im aware that daddario do coated strings, but their coatings suck and don't last. If only they could do a coating as good as elixir, for me I'd make the switch

So if you wanted to brighten up your strings...what would you recommend? I have a guitar that's a bit dark...I've replaced wiring. replacing the nut...and want as bright (and long lasting) of a string as I can find
