Eliza Dushku is claiming she was molested on the set of ‘True Lies’ when she was 12 years old. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, the hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“PASADENA, Calif.- Actress Eliza Dushku spoke out on Saturday, saying a stunt coordinator sexually molested her when she was 12 when she was working on the 1994 film "True Lies." She said that Joel Kramer "groomed" her for months to earn her and her parents' trust.
In a disturbing post on her Facebook account Saturday, Dushku detailed the alleged assault and also said that Kramer, then 36, caused her to be injured on the set as payback for disclosing the alleged misconduct to a friend. Kramer denied the accusations as "lies" in trade publication interviews.
A Dushku representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.
Worldwide Production Agency told Deadline that they dropped Kramer as a client as a result of the allegations.
"These are outlandish, manipulated lies," Kramer told Deadline. "I never sexually molested her. ... I think she's making this up in her imagination."
"True Lies" filmmaker James Cameron said he was unaware of what he called Dushku's "heartbreaking" experience and lauded her as "very brave" for speaking up.”

Aries - Why would you think I meant anything so abysmally stupid? Of course not, but by its very nature, child rape often goes decades before anyone listens. The idea of a statute of limitations on ANY rape is absolutely ludicrous, but for child rape, it's infinitely worse.

Love how so many people blast 12 year olds or any teens for not coming forward, for not calling the police. Have you ever been 12? Not raped,not molested...just 12...have you ever been 12? If you have...and I'm guessing most of you have...stop and think for a second before vomiting forth your 'clever-guy' nonsense.

I make no excuse for the adults involved in these types of situations, they need to step up in a lot of situations where instead they fall down. I only was saying to think like a kid for a second before throwing crap about how they should have handled it. Everyone is attributing serious coping and critical thinking after a violation, to a child, and that's grossly unfair.

I have been told by a few people that my daughter who is now 11 should go into modeling because she has the looks and personality. I did look into it and there are contracts that state parents are not allow on sets. O hell no that’s not going to happen.

Got a friend who told her social worker her dad molested her when she was 12, and nothing happened to her dad. She got sent to a group home for kids with behavior problems because she had run away from home, ran away _to_ her social worker's office. It's particularly heartbreaking when a sex crime happens to a kid.

What many commemters on this video don't understand is that pedophiles target CHILDREN. This situation sounds typical in that the alleged criminal groomed her parents and her in order to gain easy access to his victim. Children are easily intimidated; often they don't understand why they're being targeted, feel deep shame at being targeted, and frequently blame themselves for being targeted. The fact that despite reports of this crime the alleged criminal wasn't punished would only have reinforced the (at that time) child's self-blame and shame. And pedophiles usually understand this, and use it against their victims.

You think a TWELVE year old little girl has any idea how to handle such a situation? I was 5 when I was molested my a family member. I spoke up. I was told not to worry about it, that mistakes happen by men who don't know better. This is a cultural issue. She did nothing wrong and she is brave to speak her truth now, names and all.

Yup. They've got every classic excuse in the book ready to go. "She did it for her career." "She only called it assault after she felt ashamed the next day." Yet, they seem allergic to the one big obvious one... "He assaulted her."

Her family didn't "not know how to handle it" because it was a taboo topic at the time. 20 years ago, we frowned upon child molesters, it was not taboo. Her family didn't do anything because they didn't want their little cash cow's career over before it began. The same reason that none of the adults in her life called the police. They all wanted to look the other way and cash their checks.

Not really. How would you admit an unproven allegation into the court for the jury to decide? The case would be really flimsy if the jury wasn't allowed to hear about the circumstances leading up to an "attempted murder". It would just look like an accident and the court probably wouldn't even take the case.

It all comes back to what Corey Feldman was and is still talking about til this very of what has been and is still going on in Hollywood with child actors. I think it all comes back to the parents. You know, don’t send your kids off anywhere without YOU! not a manager or “guardian”. The parent(s) needs to be present all times. Otherwise things like this happen. It’s not the child’s fault at all. there are sick and evil people in this world. And majority of them dress in disguise. But anyway I’m glad for her to be brave and share her story.

PumpkinsnBlackcats I don’t know whether this actress’s story is credible or not. With a lot of these accusations, some of these stories are flimsy. I’m just saying that if a 12 year old girl came to me saying: “some 36 year old man molested her.” I’m going to the police. Furthermore, why would her parents or onset guardian let her go to a 36 year-old man’s house alone? That doesn’t mean he did anything to her necessarily, but I find it strange that these adults hear this story of abuse from a child, and no one calls the authorities.

How does a 12 year old child get left out of sight of her parents into the hands of a movie stunt guy whom subsequently molested her ? I'm sure there a method to this but I'm seriously wondering were the parents and every other responsible adult was around the set at those times. He must have felt pretty comfortable with getting this 12 year old child away from everybody and he was obviously pretty sure it was seen as so normal or nobody cared/payed any attention that he knew he could molest her and get away with it too. Children in Hollywood should be watched like hawks by their parents, other responsible adults and child protective services to make sure these types of pedofile predators don't get a window of opportunity to pounce on their prey, because it happens way too often that these predators manage to get themselves into positions of trust or authority in these children's lives.

What people need to understand was at the time this took place the culture was incredibly different around child molestation, families seemed to want to handle it at home and not involve the police cause it was seen as embarrassing and uncomfortable. When Iwas molested as a kid the police never got involved, we just sort of moved away and pretended it never happened. There was a conflict the guy got yelled at but thats basically the jist of it, Calling the police just wasn't the first thought.

+McRocket We are not sending this guy to jail or putting him in the electric chair--we are the court of public opinion. A jury determines whether the guy is to be charged with a crime. We are asking whether the accusations are credible--we are looking at the evidence and making an informed judgment. When (or if) the guy goes to court, he will be assumed innocent by his peers unless the prosecution convinces them otherwise. Long story short, the accused is not having his constitutional rights revoked. We don't know all the facts of the case, but the claims made by the different parties are credible. The guy obviously did it i.e. he is a manipulative monster who molests children. I can say that and I'm not violating his right to the presumption of innocence.

The biggest difference with this story which makes it almost instantly sound true and this is not to claim that any of the others are not true as well, however the difference with this story and many of the others is that in today's climate Dushku is way more famous than Cramer in this instance she has far more to lose than he does. Again not saying that others aren't true and even this example I"m going to give, some of the others seem suspicious in the time of coming forward for instance James Franco accusers seemed to at the very least hit the news almost immediately after he won an award. Again not saying that it's not true and he's innocent however when people decide to come forth almost in reaction to these celebrities having a super popular movie come out or winning an award it seems like there is more of a motive than sharing their story and trying to stop others from being assaulted.

@aerialkate 6 жыл бұрын
Bethany Gee He'd befriended the entire family over time and invited their daughter to what he'd described a pool party, where it was implied there would be other kids. Classic M.O. of a predator. Parents were dense AF, yes, but their little girl suffered. Your post could be misconstrued to imply blame on the part if the victim. Avoid that. It's dangerous.

Ughhhhh... ok. I watched the video and I understand how it happened. My question is still valid. A person was hired to accompany her and didn't, apparently, on more than one occasion. If any blame was implied, it's very clearly for the individuals tasked with caring for her and not the victim. Your tone can be misconstrued as preachy and annoying. Avoid that.

It’s too bad Forbes didn’t just call the police. I know it would have made a sh*tstorm and it might have ruined both their careers (Though if James Cameron was serious about “no mercy,” maybe not.), but at that time they would have had a better chance at gathering any evidence. One would hope the studio wouldn’t have made it go away. She is so brave to come forward after having it pushed under the rug for so long. I hope statute of limitations hasn’t run out on criminal charges. She could possibly hit him with a civil suit, but I’d like to see something more substantial. Consequences are important.

This explains so much to me. If you have seen Eliza's earlier work in movies, specifically, soul survivors, you will see that she is so messed up, and you wonder how could a young woman act so crazy? The story she is telling makes total perfect sense. I am a fan of Eliza, she is a beautiful person inside and out.

I just checked, there is a statute of limitation for sexual offences against a minor in California, which expired 9 years ago in this case. If a complainant comes forward by the age of 28, a case can be brought. Eliza Dushku is now 37.

There shouldn't be a statute of limitation for crimes against children IMO
@FionaOfMountLawley
@FionaOfMountLawley 6 жыл бұрын
There are 9 states where there isn't, It's weird to me that there are 41 where there is. I'm used to living somewhere that sexual offences against children are considered so heinous that people can be and are successfully prosecuted 30 or more years after the time of the offences. It does feel like this California law has more of an effect of giving relief to a perpetrator who remains unindicted long enough, more than it allows a reasonable period of time to the victim.
@DePhoegonIsle
@DePhoegonIsle 6 жыл бұрын
It has more to do with... a crime two decades past being unprovable & a complete waste of time, with most of it relying on testimony of people whom had it happen over two decades ago. -- Not only will you only be able to tell them what you feel happened, that any proof outside that is so long gone, if it happened at all, that it's insane. If there was enough evidence to begin with for a conviction, and you've held onto it for that long, then you no longer are a victim you are literally your own conspirator against your younger self, as you've chosen to not help by withholding evidence that it would need.
@FionaOfMountLawley
@FionaOfMountLawley 6 жыл бұрын
Yes there's an element of reflecting the lesser chance of securing a conviction, but that's a matter for courts, not the legislature. The limitation imposed by a statute of limitations is established by the legislature, and implicitly has the effect of giving a perpetrator who avoids identification or even where their identity is known, denunciation a pass.The purposes of protection of society and it's members, and the interests of justice are sacrificed where statutes of limitation cause events to become unactionable.. This makes remedy unavailable. Those are also all pertinent legal concerns.

All these stories that are coming out are just devastating. The film industry is just the perfect situation for people to take advantage of others, it's terrifying and so awful to hear what these men and women went through and kept inside all these years. The amount of assaults coming to light is just mind-boggling, however, I am so glad that these victims of such traumatic events are finally feeling empowered (for lack of a better word) to tell their stories and hopefully get some kind of resolution and justice for themselves.

nice work. but there would be a statute of limitations of likely 6 at most 12yrs. & even where that has recently changed, im, not sure if it has been tested as to being retrospective or not yet. it s just a horrible situation. that is a real kid & some real bad hollywood biz. & ppl really knowing at the time & not doing anything. Or not doing enough. Or not wanting to, or not feeling able. Probably correctly for all the reasons they feared at the time, articulated or not. it is all just awful.

Jaii Raph if it happened, it's awful.. I wouldn't completely rule it out. The concern was her story of that night. I'll give her that she was young, but the claims are conflicting. The people with him that night confirmed his story. Though they could of forgot or lied for him. It sucks if it happened, but if it didn't happen, then she ruined an innocent man's life. I guess we will never know.
