A few things to help with the song. Elizabeth was Peters girlfriend of 10+ years. Flatbush was the town / area in New York that Peter grew up in (Flatbush porch). Other songs with interesting lyrics / means to do next would be Nettie (about Peters mother), Todd’s Ship Gods (about his father) or The Dream is Dead.

Type O Negative is my favorite band and I have loved watching you react to their songs. It's too bad you never had a chance to see them live. They always put on a great show. You should definitely check out songs from the album World Coming Down--especially the title track or Pyretta Blaze. They also have an amazing Beatles medley comprised of Day Tripper, If I Needed Someone, and She's So Heavy. Can't wait for the next one!

Dead Again is my second favorite album (behind Bloody Kisses). No duds on this album. It was Type-O's last record before Pete died. Thank you Lauren. This make's me well up every time. BTW Kenny does the shouting parts, very well I might add. Try Tripping a Blind Man or the Profit Of Doom off this record. Outstanding song writing and the performances on this record are their best in my opinion. Thanks again.

I would suggest from this album, These Three Things. It's such a heavy song lyrically and relevant to an extremely divisive topic right now. I was blown away by the lyrics when I finally read them one day. I never knew what it was about, I just liked it. I never knew about him becoming a Christian again either until I read the lyrics and looked into it. Then I'm like, "Dead Again" ohhhhhhh, i get it now. XD

September Sun is really the third part of a trilogy of songs that traverses the entire arc of a life-changing love-and-loss story. it begins with Love You to Death, the second act is Anesthesia, and then wraps up in bitter sweet acceptance with September Sun. and the fact he died only a few years later…..man….

Nice...my favorite TON song. Really happy you went with the full version...the section with their version of martial music to some sort of political rally and Peter singing in his Vinnish language adds a great twist to the song, IMO
@dookieshoe29052 жыл бұрын
Don't know if it's ever been brought up in the comments but your Lennon shirt is an interesting connection since the band had stated multiple times that the two biggest inspirations and a kind of goal of theirs was to make a band that was the Beatles meets Black Sabbath and you can clearly puck up those sections in many of their songs that have a Beatles feel to them. Even in this one you could imagine sections of it without the heavy guitars and it totally sounds like the Beatles. Hey that's a good idea for a future video, do one of their many Beatles covers. I thankfully, was able to see them live on the tour for this album and they played Magical Mystery Tour live. That was an unforgettable show, just so many incredible moments. Also I want to hear your reaction to a different song from the same album as Anesthesia, "Life Is Killing Me." I can't say which one would be the best because that song is probably my favorite from that album as well. Maybe Nettie or Less Than Zero. (We Were) Electrocute is good too.
@Katie-Didn-t Жыл бұрын
I can give you SOME context even though I don’t know the exact details: Peter suffered debilitating shyness and low self-esteem, to the point he should have had anxiety treatment but self-medicated with alcohol to get through live performances. He would have rather thrown up and run away than get onstage. He didn’t run, puking happened sometimes, because the band had agreed to ride the ride to the end whatever happened when they started the band, because this was how they all got their paychecks and he wasn’t going to screw it up for them, and he honored his commitments unless he’d accidentally committed to a lie or there were false pretenses or something. While people tend to think it’s a ton of alcohol, remember his size, how much he was metabolizing with the muscle mass he had & activity of a concert; instead of running away he’d sit or pace alone backstage nursing and finishing ~ 1/2gal wine for about 1-2hrs before time to go on stage, then he’d straight up down a bottle right before he had to walk on and generally continue drinking during the set if it was very long at all (along with water too at this point), but as much as it SEEMS like he was drinking, wine has a low % of alcohol, an average person burns off a glass an hour, he was so huge it probably took at least downing an entire bottle at once, possibly 2, to even get tipsy, and speaking from experience, I think Polish, Russian and maybe just Slavic people have been drinking Vodka for so many generations even as children (you drank what was clean, available, and if it was winter, what would keep you from freezing) that we just have built in alcohol tolerance.*read the end for what I learned about Slavic tolerance* He’d also NEVER expected the success they’d gotten, the band had had higher expectations than him, but they’d been surprised too (even though we all know it should have been more but their songs didn’t get radio play due to length or content and the band DID have an offer to go MUCH bigger (different label or something paying a lot more but bigger venues with more well known bands so sold out guarantees or something) but they turned it down for Peter’s sake. He said he’d do it. They’d all known each other since they were kids, knew how hard it was on him already and that he’d always do what was needed for the band because that was their income and how they supported their families so unless it was a “can’t” issue rather than an “i don’t want to issue” he wouldn’t have believed in any single person interfering with the rest of their jobs and income. He never knew they turned it down for him though because it would have involved moving so they used their family as excuses). So he was dealing with severe anxiety, low self-esteem, and feeling immense pressure not to let anyone down, then he had ALL the fan girls throwing themselves at him, which was fine for a one nighter, but they wanted the guy from onstage and who they THOUGHT he was… so he was very unlucky in love. He tried to get sober a couple times but it didn’t last because tours happened again and he wasn’t treating the real problem, just the problem from his self meds. He’d been sober for quite a while b4 he died (diverticulitis went septic causing a heart attack, symptoms went unnoticed because he’d become used to them while drinking and were attributed to the digestive problems of an alcoholic at the time). However, in this song he’d found someone that liked/loved HIM, not THE Peter Steele, but dropped him like a hot potato due to the personality changes from who he was normally to who he was during/after a tour (aka after a sometimes year long drinking binge). Then even after he’d gotten sober for good and the band was willing to support him with what HE needed to stay that way, she still treated him like he was the same person as before, and something like that after all the ups and downs and hard work makes you feel hollow and that it was pointless. *I know in my house my Polish dad thought having a legal drinking age where you could die for your country without legally having a beer was beyond idiotic and my mom just cared about safety so we could drink if we wanted as long as we 1. weren’t driving till the next day 2. Had an older sibling or a legal friend with us while we drank OR 3. stayed at home to drink; so when I turned 16 I decided I wanted to try getting drunk instead of having a tiny taste of whatever someone else might be having that I’d never tried before (how I learned I didn’t like the taste of ANY alcohol so if I was going to drink I either had to do shots or mixes that made it unnoticeable). My older brothers were thrilled and couldn’t wait to help and see me act like an idiot as I was the “good kid” (I was just the youngest so I saw what everyone else did wrong and didn’t do those things, not rocket science) but they wanted to make fun of whatever silly things I ended up doing, probably for the rest of my life. Complete failure, I drank everything we had in the house that wasn’t “expensive don’t touch” and nothing happened, they took me to the grocery store then a friend’s house and they were getting desperate so they had me chug the entire 6 pack of Zima they’d pooled money to buy and I got a little tipsy but it went away in like, 15 mins, that’s when the friend started pouring double shots of something cherry flavored in a bad bad way and only stopped when they could tell it was working, then gave me another just to be sure and that finally got me drunk. Mostly I just felt sick with all the different crap I drank on an empty stomach instead of being able to enjoy being drunk for the first time ever and knowing I was in a safe environment (my brothers could screw with me till I cried, if anyone else looked at me wrong they’d be on them like white on rice, god forbid someone was actually interested in me even for a regular date… if they didn’t get scared off appropriately I think they might actually have filed a missing persons report a dumped the body). I know it took the equivalent of 12 back to back drinks, NOT including what I’d had at home, to get drunk at 120lbs and 5’6 1/2”. So over the next couple weeks I checked, and sure enough everyone on that side of the family can sip straight liquor (Vodka, Rum, Gin, Whiskey, Moonshine etc.) out of a regular sized glass they can fill for the evening to chill out with for the “taste” without getting tipsy at all. One of my brothers ended up collecting a full bar over time and working his way through the “The Essential Bar Book: A to Z Guide to Spirits, Cocktails, and Wine” using what he had for the recipes and slowly buying more ingredients if they weren’t stupidly priced. He did 2-3/night depending on alcohol content and checked them off in the book along with his feedback and rating in the margins.

"He just started speaking another language." I'm pretty sure Peter came up with his own made up language he called Vinnish from Vinland. I'm guessing that's probably what you heard. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that. There is actually a song entirely in this language, but it's not exactly a Type O Negative song. There was a project back in the day called Roadrunner United, various musicians from different bands on Roadrunner Records teamed up to write a bunch of songs for a compilation album. There were 4 team captains, one of which was Joey Jordison of Slipknot. Joey and Peter Steele did a song together called Enemy of the State, it's a great song even though I have no clue what the lyrics are supposed to mean.

Did you know that Peter had band before Type0-, called Carnivore? They made two albums and it was faster, more hardcore/crossover/black sabbath type of thing, with very offensive lyrics :).. And you should also check Type0-'s first album, Slow, deep and hard... It is exactly like that! Maybe 'Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity' from that one... Or even better idea, since they have a few interesting in-between songs, why don't start reacting to their full discography, from the beginning? That way you won't miss a thing...

I was fortunate enough to have seen them perform at House of Blues in Las Vegas in 2007. This song is one of my favorites. I listen to it frequently. Forgive me for not knowing whom to give credit and not knowing the precise quote but I heard something recently that has stuck with me... 'The reason we listen to songs over and over when our heart is broken is because the part of the song that hurts us the most doesn't hurt us enough.' This is one of those songs for me and "Did it give you pleasure to steal my soul?" is that part of the song. Thank you for the music and rest in peace, Pete.

The chants are in Russian. He does also do them in German and Latin in Gregorian style. You'll really dig Nettie off of Life is Killing me. Type O is a journey, every album is different and one of the many cool things about them is hearing that journey and maturation from hardcore/thrash shock rock into something wholly unique and beautiful. But you don't get one without the other. Also, Pete referred to them or their style sometimes as "Stink Floyd." Fitting, imo. It's like smashing Floyd, Sabbath and the Beatles into some kind of steamroller of sound. Can't wait to see you do more of the greatest American rock band of my generation... Maybe ever....

The "language" he is speaking there near the end is made up, it's Vinlandish. Peter designed the flag of Vinland and was quite the nerd about Vinland. Not saying that's a bad thing, it certainly isn't. This song is a beautiful masterpiece, perfect send off for the Green Man.
