Elizabeth Maconchy Quartet No. 11

Mistry Q plays Maconchy's String Quartet No. 11. One of my favorite compositions in the genre. 20th century string quartet literature. Somewhat neo-Bartok, but which a genuinely original character. Maconchy studied on the continent in Prague in her earlier years. One of her choral Donne settings A Prayer to God The Father must be heard to be believed.

A good quartet? Yes. But so enslaved to Bartok that there is little original here.
