She is still hot! See her in the movies Ragtime and Once upon a Time in America. If you are reading this Liz, sorry for being such a troglodyte, but you are a very nice looking girl!

Would one venture to suggest this is just a sample of Yankee abilities...when met head on with the love of a good (UK) man! Such a tasteful and graceful lady!

If "one" didn't have much contact with Americans, one might think they need to be be paired with Brits to have abilities, possibly?

What is that accent she has on the show but doesn't in real life ? I don't speak english as my native tong but I've noticed that (I think) so how come ?
@Luiseut5910 жыл бұрын
I think on the show she has this "harder" american accent and I guess that makes it sound "older" but I think she also has sort of a british "drawl", maybe because she's lived in the U.K. for a long time.
@izzleinatizzle10 жыл бұрын
yes, she moved to the UK in the 90s because of her marriage so she herself is an American that has adopted small things in her pronunciation (like when she says the word 'marriage'; it sounds distinctly british). and her character plays the same role, an american who moved to the UK. so the difference between her actual accent and her character's accent is the time period! she needs to put on an older style american accent mixed with an older style english accent!

Whatever accent she tried to convey on the show is horrible. Not only is her voice annoying but the accent sounds way too modern.

have to read Wharton's book to see why American women would put themselves into the position she married into. If the aristocracy runs out of money, let them. Why would Americans sacrifice their daughters for them.
@layla-talmedina57337 жыл бұрын
Marie Trebilcock it’s pretty much like a barter. Some heiresses, like Consuelo Vanderbilt were very rich, filthy rich, one might say-but they were pretty much barred or unwelcome in American high society (there is such a thing, even at that time) because they were new money. This propelled many an American mamma to send her daughters to Europe, so they can try their luck in society and hopefully bag an aristocratic fella to marry. A huge horde of those American heiresses landed in England, whose cash strapped aristocrats who were willing to give their potential brides some sort of “class” in exchange for their money. So for them, it was sort of a win-win situation in terms of standing in society. Not all their marriages were happy, though.
