I thought Penelope's acting after her on-screen son Matthew died was stellar. It was the little nuances in her facial expressions, the eyes suddenly veiling over with a thin film of tears, the quiver in her voice, all the while staying dignified and generous. I really felt for her character, I could feel her grief.

There will never be another TV series of this calibre. You could sit back for an hour every week for many years and totally escape into a world that is so foreign to most of us, but fascinating at the same time. @@Kristiekins2 What means Dame? In German in would mean "lady"
@flav26892 жыл бұрын
@@daimhaus It means that but in the UK it's more than that. It's an honorific title, the feminine form of address the honour of damehood. Honours are given by the Queen/monarch. They are used to recognise merit in terms of achievement and service. When a person is a respected invididual who has been especially brave or succesfull and has brought pride for the country in one way or another, the Queen can make them knights (men) or dames (women). Men have the honorific title "Sir" to address the honour of the knighthood - and women "Dame" for the honour of the damehood (=female equivalent for knighthood). Out of respect those people are called by the title - as it should because those are not given lightly. Damehood/knighthood is a huge recognition. I hope this answers your question. Sorry for possible mistakes, English isn't my first language. I knew about the subject and I'm interested in it so I wrote a terribly long response... Sorry for that! Have a nice day. :)

The great thing about this series is it shows that even 100 years ago, though the struggles may have been different, people were just as challenged by life and had to overcome just as much as they do today. Today people look at the complexities of our modern world and think no group of people ever had so much to contend with as we do today when in reality, life and the world people live today is no more challenging than the world of 100, 200, or 1000 years ago. Which is encouraging because the triumphs of 100, 200, and 1000 years ago can be experienced today in equal measure.

If I could be in a one minute scene with Maggie Smith I would be in heaven. Best I could ever hope for is maybe an autograph. She had some of the funniest lines ever. Love ❤️ her.

Love that they for once didn't complained about the corsets. It sure is very different, but they seemed to be very well made.

Julian Fellowes should have written the last two series of Game of Thrones. It would have been SO much better than the hog swill Dumb and Dumber dished up.

Cannot watch Julian Fellows without being strongly reminded of Simon Callow's spot on impersonation of him 🤣

As much as I love Dame Maggie in this series, and she's always so superb, for anyone who wants an even better idea of her range of talent, from comedy to drama, I recommend my favourite performance ever of hers, in the monologue Bed Among the Lentils, written by Alan Bennett as part of his Talking Heads series, for the BBC in the 1980s. Maggie plays the alcoholic wife of a vicar, reflecting and talking about her life and the affair she starts having with an Asian grocer. Absolutely brilliant. Funny and heartbreaking at the same time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4XKqoynjpiLiqc
