Even when Elizabeth Montgomery had terminal cancer, she was just so beautiful and certainly didn't look too ill. I call her this tragic beauty, gone too soon, and the same with Agnes Morehead, and the actress named Alice who had ovarian cancer..... My goodness. It made me want to cry. And then, my own mother who had cancer, joined those who were pretty much so iconic, to me. I still think about these amazing actresses and my mother.

True. He ended up in small town in Michigan because his mother had died and left him her house. Dick & his wife were in dire financial straits for many years, so the chance to move there for a rent free home was too good to pass up ! In a TV interview he did before he died, the reporter said they were living on $650 a month from his Screen Actors Guild pension. But in the interview Dick (on oxygen) was anything but wallowing in regrets & self pity. He was very upbeat and only had positive things to say about his career and his co-workers. He & wife were involved in raising money for the homeless up until the end of his life. Bless his kind & gentle heart ! May he rest in eternal bliss....

Ms. Montgomery had a summer home in Patterson, Putnam County, New York State. Following her death in 1995, the 794-acre (321 ha) estate was sold to the State of New York and it became the core of Wonder Lake State Park. She loved spending summer hiatus from Bewitched there and figured that if she willed it to NY State it would be protected and could be enjoyed by everyone

Elizabeth Montgomery was a great comedic & dramatic actress, and such a beautiful woman. I've always wondered, however, why she never mentioned her "Bewitched" costar, Dick York, in interviews like this one. York said he called her several times after he left the series over health issues, but she never returned his calls. Incidentally, Elizabeth was estranged from her father up until the time of his death.

I'd seen in a video on here about Bewitched which revealed how Dick York had supposedly fallen in love with Liz and wanted her to leave her husband for him. Biggest problem with that was that her husband was the producer of the show! How did he expect her to leave her husband for him in that situation? All three worked on the same show and he was just willing for both of them to lose their jobs over this? Because I'm sure that's what would've happened since her husband was the producer and essentially their boss.

Samantha IS Elizabeth. That statement is so true. The things that Sam did Elizabeth did at home, painting something around the house, painting a picture, gardening, and like Sam, Liz, according to her eldest son, was an excellent cook. But one of Liz's interesting comments is that, she was never bored, in all eight seasons, and she learned so much, like going to college. She also said the same thing in another interview. That two-part interview is here on YT. There are those, who have done BEWITCHED documentaries, have expressed the opinion that Liz was bored by season eight. But she did want to move on. As Bill Asher said, BEWITCHED had run its course and television had changed. Her parents wouldn't let her go to a movie until she was eight. They felt it was better that she go out and play, just like a lot of other parents. ❤ As I watched the interview, I got the feeling what a sweet person. Her smile was genuine, not forced. Her children would probably disagree with their Mom. Based on what her son and daughter said, in the 1999 A&E special, their Mom would always go and see her kids, no matter when she got home from work. Her son William said that she would always talk with them. He said, on the weekends, it was all about her family, just like her own dad did, when she and her brother were kids. Her daughter, Rebecca, said that she missed her Mother's voice. Finally, Elizabeth seldom spoke of BEWITCHED, until the late 1980s, when Herbie Pilato met with her for his book THE BEWITCHED BOOK (now BEWITCHED FOREVER). Because of the book, she let her guard down a bit. Liz was very private. She was proud of BEWITCHED and the cast, and they loved her. As an example, Pilato wanted to interview Dick Sargent and David White. They wouldn't speak to him unless Liz was involved. She arranged for a telephone interview with Sargent and a surprised face to face meeting with David White at Elizabeth's home. This shows how much love and respect they had for her. Pilato would go on to write Elizabeth Montgomery's biography.

Whoever said Elizabeth wasn't nice are wrong. She was a sweet and kind person, according to those who knew her. Erin Murphy loved her and stayed in contact with her through her kids, who she is still friends with. Robert Foxwirth said, about a year or so ago, that those he's met over the years, loved working with Liz. People, who met her in public, have posted, to a person, have said she was so nice. If she had time, she'd stop and talked to them, sometimes signing an autograph. Liz Shridan, a close friend of EM, said she was a sweet and generous person.

Liz and her father were on opposite ends of the political spectrum, Robert Montgomery was a staunch conservative and Liz was a liberal. Robert Foxworth also said that he thought her father was jealous of his daughter's success, feeling she had become bigger then he had been. Her father didn't want her to become an actress, but that's all she talked about, from an early age. Her father did warn her about the industry. I think that's why she guarded her privacy.

@@robinlillian9471 I agree with this assessment about "maybe it was an agreement'. She was known for not wanting to talk about "Bewitched" all that much in the late 1970s and through the 1980s and just really started talking about it again around 1989 and later. I read when Bill Asher directed "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later" she called him and told him he was an idiot for doing that. All counts point to her being a looking forward in her career type of person, not really looking back that much. Several folks have said that she was surprised how popular "Bewitched" had become when it was being shown on Nick at Nite in the late 1980s, she genuinely had no idea the show was so popular.

In order for Montgomery to agree to such a rare interview, it was already pre-decided that certain things would not be discussed and were off the table. This was just a generic fluff piece and not a Barbara Walters tell-all-wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve interview. Many classy female celebrities who had great stories to tell never gave interviews, much like Jackie Kennedy Onassis ever since she left the White House.

I would say Elizabeth requested for the Darrin issue not to be mentioned in this interview. Dick York was very much a part of this show's success. Really shines a dark light on what I had thought Elizabeth to be

You would say that based on what? absolutely nothing. You have ZERO evidence of that. It's people like you who keep gossip mags in business. And even if she did, she probably had her reasons., which, and this might be a shocker to you, reasons she wanted to keep to herself. Liz is in this interview, not Samantha. Learn to separate character from actors.

Elizabeth was not overly fond of Dick York. They worked very well together, and that's all that matters. She found York annoying. And on a busy set, you don't have to be friendly off camera with those you are not fond of.

I know York had numerous problems, but why in the world should anyone think Elizabeth should have helped him with money? They were not friendly, just work partners. That's life. Besides, Elizabeth had a busy and full life that went in a completely different direction after the series.

Nothing much I can add here except the Dick York story is heartbreaking and tragic. I respect Liz Montgomery for many things, not the least of which was her absolutely stunning beauty and charm, but I disrespect her and others on the show for not helping Dick York when he was obviously so down and out. My favorite actress of all time , for many of us a first crush. When I was about 10 or 11 the cast of Bewitched was the celebrity guest for the Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio, they were watching the races from a tower and I was seated below, after yelling Samantha for a while she looked down , smiled and waved ( annoying kid :-). She was very special (still is, thanks to video) Thanks.

Tony Montana . Lots of stories about how Dick York fell for her, she didn’t want him, she was married, it got icky. I’m pretty neutral toward her. I feel more concern for her father, Robert. I think he may have gone on with undiagnosed PTSD after his war service. In “ They Were Expendable” he captured chronic war fatigue perfectly.

@@tonymontana897 I agree but for a different reason. I loved Elizabeth and I was sad to see her marriage to Bill Asher end supposedly after the series ended. But I did read in several different places that during the 8th season of Bewitched, Liz fell in love with a director and associate producer on the show, Richard Michaels. You see his name frequently in the credits. He was married, also. Ultimately, her marriage to Bill ended and Richard's marriage to his wife ended and they moved in together. They were together for 2 and a half years before their affair ended. I'm still shocked just typing this. All the books that Herbie Pilato has written about Liz and Bewitched never mention this at all.
