For anyone wondering, the “air cleaner” on that rat rod is most likely a very antique early form of a slide projector that projects large glass film slides. The slot in the middle is where you manual insert the slide to be project and the back end with the wooden door is where lightbulb went and the vent on top is for the bulb’s heat to vent. The knob near the front is the focus knob.
