Those trees are ASPENS. You get to a high enough altitude and you'll see them everywhere. They're actually clones... a root system runs between them all, so one grove is pretty much the same tree. They're called "quaking aspens" because of the leaves - the slightest breeze will set them to quivering. They're also one of the first trees to turn gold in fall, first at high elevations and then moving downward as the season progresses. So you'll get bands of gold trees on the mountainsides.

The strange thing about aspen trees is that they are actually one living thing, not individual trees. Considered to be the largest living thing on earth. Elk like aspens.
@cm27984 жыл бұрын
Those are our famous aspens..populous tremeloides..also known as "quakies"..they get that from how they appear to kind of tremble in a breeze..you need to see them in the fall when the leaves all turn yellow and the mountains appear to turn gold. So awesome, you were right up by one of my "short day ride "loops i ride on my bike when i can't go more than a few hours on Sunday..Westcliffe /Silver cliffe- area.. you may see black bears and mountain lions too on those back roads.. some of the elk herds will be in the hundreds all running across the road in front of you..blm and state forest roads don't always go the way you think they should the way they are mapped. Looks like you all are having the adventure you want though.Enjoy!
@danabrown3874 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons your gps tracks are taking you to gates and areas that are off limits or non motorized travel is their source. A lot of his tracks on the TAT haven’t been updated or were poorly mapped, a lot of riders have had issues especially in North Carolina as well as Colorado and Utah.

From what have read many of the rancher, farmers will post that stuff but it is public right away on that tat map(thats from Kevins website)...they just do it to discourage riders crossing thru their land on public right aways...from Kevins Webpage: Q: Does this trail cross private property? A: Yes, of course many times. There are many public easements which allow people to cross these zones. There are also many gates, which you are allowed to open and pass through. You are requested to leave the gate as you found it, open or closed. This is very common out west. Sadly some property owners wish there was no public easement and will post no trespassing signs, which can be confusing, really it means you are allowed to pass on the road, but should not travel off the road onto their property.
