That's a nice sized herd. Beautiful country for sure.

It'd be a beautiful drive along the river all the way through. They fought tooth and nail to keep the few airstrips and roads that are left in there. They sure cut access off to a helluva lot of people that have trouble hikin' or sittin' a horse! Guess Frank didnt have another Jellystone in mind. Take er easy!

Good mornin and many blessings. Today's Idaho Hillbilly video was about how regulations and laws being a problem. Thank God for the Laws created for Wilderness areas. May not be good for travel but oh so good for Gods country. I was laying here thinking about Honey Molasses Wheat toast and Orange marmalade. LOL. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Gary. It sure is nice seeing that herd of elk. Wilderness areas are increasingly under threat from developers for many reasons. One area that is under tremendous threat in the US, is the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which has a lot of oil potential. It is also critical for the porcupine caribou herd calving grounds. Thanks to that reserve, I am guessing is the reason you have wolves showing up. Keep moving forward.

The Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is not that far north of Frank Church and is over 1.3 million acres. It is about 3 miles west of where of where I'm sitting right now.
@MuskratOutdoors10 сағат бұрын
It's actually pretty much connected. There is a road through it separating the two is all.

No there's not. Not as many wolves as people think. Pretty good herd here, but its a winter ground. We don't see herds this size the rest of the year anymore.

That is a nice drive down by the river. I didn't know about the wilderness area. That is amazing how big the area is. I hope they leave it untouched because it sounds like it is one of the last untouched area where you can still hunt that keeps vehicles out of it. I bet that is a nice area to hunt. Do you and Miss Cindy ever hunt in that area? Look forward to the rest of the video! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

Hey Morning !!! Great scenery & nice elk heard there. You talking about rocks in the road. I was traveling around want to in Idaho west side following a river. It got very wide maybe half mile + or - .. I came along a boulder , huge & completely out of place. The ridges were far enough away that it couldn't have just tumbled down a slope. How long had it been there? Since the days of Noah ??? One of them how did it get there.

The elk sure are magnificent animals. I'm sure cow tags are few and far between, and bulls aren't like bucks in Ohio numbers wise. A lot of good meals in the animals.

I think the last time I was on this road was 1960 when I was 5. My Dad worked for a ranch South of Salmon at Baker, Idaho. I don't remember Shoup. I think we were there on ranch business. Dad was friends with Elmer Keith in Salmon. Idaho Hillbilly my Mom's family came to Council in very late 1800's. The old Cottonwood Cemetery is where my great Grandpa is buried. Salmon area and Council both used to be good hunting but all the crush of new people to Idaho kind wrecked the solitude.

I just checked mileage from Salmon to Yachats. 735.3 Then looked up the map for the Frank Church and I sure don't see anything close to half the mileage if a road was cut across the F.C. Even if Idaho and Oregon teamed up and built a freeway straight as a arrow from the fairgrounds to your mom's house I still don't see the mileage cutting even close to half. We will nvr know will we lol. Thanks for another wonderful video Gary.

Depends on how you go. I don't go on freeways, we go though the center of the state by John Day.

I wonder if the Native Americans hunted elk and deer when they were yarded up in the winter? Beautiful place, but worried about you on those icy roads so close to the River of No Return. Have a good one!

Wilderness designations are good for preservation; however, it makes it for the most part inaccessible to most anyone other than a select few.

🙄 ok are you trying to jinks it? To complain, or Bragg about mild weather is among the four letter words that dare not be thought or spoken of in Wyoming. Key four letter = WIND😮 Rest assured if mention the calmestnes of it, 50mpg will soon follow. Here we are hoping for a cold snap to help ice formation on key lakes. Hoping to fish for Rainbow smelt. Not to be confused for the sacred Delta fire walleye smet of comistan. Anyway it's been two years without safe ice so we are jonesing for the little 🐟. So these are delicious 😋 Mountain man
