Ella had the Voice of an Angel! IMPECCABLE! I'd like to recommend her classics All too Soon, and From this moment on. And her classics duet with Louis Armstrong, Under a Blanket of Blues! A Masterpiece!

This song was composed in 1926 by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, for the musical "Oh Kay". Ella's recorded it in 1950 and 1959. Ira Gershwin said "I never knew how good our songs were till Ella's sang them. Ella's beautiful vocals are so recognizable with the delivery of a songbird. Clean, elegant with a sweet sophistication, with a string section absolutely making this a delightful delivery of perfection. Ella's was the first African-America to win multiple Grammys and was one of the first entertainers to perform at half-time at The Super Bowl. Truly amazing. Great reaction Harri to an absolute legend. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I loved her ever since the first time I saw her on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was about 9 or 10 years old. It was just two or three years after I saw Elivis' first appearance on his show. I saw her at least four five more times on the show before I entered the Navy in 1969. Sullivan loved her too! Unfortunately the show had ended before I got back home. He had such a variety of great music on the show from all genres, especially jazz and rock and rock. He seemed to love music in general but jazz was said to be his favorite.

Exquisite voice, my father was a great voice. He listened to all genres of music; from Ella Fitzgerald to George Formby, Billy Joel, Flanders and Swan. Ms Fitzgerald’s velvet voice and ability to covey so much emotion….. enough said

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Ella Fitzgerald! Another great recording you should react to is the "Ella in Berlin" version of Mack The Knife. It's so incredible because she actually forgets the words early on and proceeds to ad-lib for the rest of the song! It shows such brilliance that Ella WON TWO Grammy's (one for the song and one for the album). WHO DOES THAT? Well...only Ella.

My daughter sang this for her senior vocal music final. She brought tears to my eye as she often does with her beautiful voice. Ella Fitzgerald though had a voice as smooth as glass! She could rip it up real good too! I loved it when she and Mel Torme would scat. Thanks to my parents for their love of all music and introducing us to this lady and so many others. Harri, you're the best! (I bet you have heard that a few times!)

Harri - Ella, and this track meant so much to me in my childhood. I was very lucky -my dad had many jazz records, including both Ella/Gershwin LPs, and he would play these records in the evening when I was upstairs in my bed, supposedly sleeping, but instead listening to all this music. Now, I was too young to understand the adult/romantic meanings, but the lines in this… “I’m a little lamb whose lost in the wood, I know I could always be good, to one who’d watch over me” - this was so meaningful for me, a child who was afraid of the scary world. I did always try to be good-these lines oddly represented my hope that my parents would always protect me.. this was my inner bargain.. I’ll be good, they will always watch over me. This was in the late 1950s. Well I did grow up, the world continued to be scary, but I did ok. Now I look back with such fondness at those times, and appreciate how lucky I was to have this exposure to such great music at such a young age. Thanks for your reaction, brother.

Awesome reaction!! I truly appreciate the enthusiasm you bring. If you like the blues I think you would enjoy hearing Beth Hart singing "Caught out in the rain" Live at The Royal Albert Hall (2018), as well as Beth Hart with Joe Bonamassa performing "I'd rather go blind" Live in Amsterdam. If you decide to go down the Beth Hart rabbit hole you will find a musical genius with so much soul it will blow your mind!

Someone To Watch Over Me is my all-time favorite song. Ella is among my top 5 female singers & this recording is absolutely gorgeous. But my most favorite version of this song is by another jazz great, Nancy Wilson, from her LP, Yesterday's Love Songs Today's Blues, which also happens to be my most favorite album of all the albums in all the world!!! Check it out, Harri!! You'll be so glad you did!!!!!

Just a humble suggestion because you mentioned listening to Ella's Christmas album: she did two and "Ella Wishes You A Swingin' Christmas" is IMO the much better one. The other one has more traditional songs--"Angels We Have Heard on High," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," Silent Night," etc.--but/and it also has a fairly intrusive choir singing behind her. The Swingin' Christmas is much jazzier.

again showing class....you are educating others by exposing them to this great American Songbook by one of the world's greatest entertainers. Sinatra used to stand in awe of her. This is George Gershwin and brother Ira is the lyricist. Learn about George Gershwin...

She had prepared a dance number for her debut at the Apollo, but the couple before her were such good dancers that she figured she’d better sing instead. Her favorite at the time was Connee Boswell and so she sang “The Object of My Affection,” won the contest and went on to win for many weeks. Thank goodness her dancing wasn’t that hot. 😊

Could it possibly be about Jesus In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
