@SY-ok2dq2 жыл бұрын
@@SB-fh3sv It just goes to show you that people of other ethnicities can also be just as insensitive and uninformed as "white people" like Ella from Idaho. Chinese people are East Asians. @@SY-ok2dq I am American and would never use Oriental to refer to people but maybe that is an American sensitivity. The term itself just means from the Orient which I don’t think is bad.
@SY-ok2dq2 жыл бұрын
@@SB-fh3sv I'm not American. But I don't like the use of the term Oriental to refer to the people of East Asia, or citizens of Western countries of East Asian heritage (which includes me). I'm sure people like my parents, who grew up speaking no English and with very, very limited knowledge of Western countries and their culture, and surrounded by people of the same ethnic, linguistic, historic and cultural background (i.e. everyone in their country being the same - no minorities or native peoples or immigrants) would not have found anything offensive or ignorant or outdated about the use of the words Orient and Oriental. They simply didn't understand English well enough, or the history of those words, to find it offensive. Likewise, they wouldn't have understood what's so offensive about the word "negro." In fact, that's the term they would have heard white U.S. servicemen using all the time, when they were stationed in their home country (with U.S. military forces and bases having a large presence there following the end of WW2). Now let's say an Indian guy went around the U.S. - Baltimore, Detroit, NYC, etc. - using the words "negro" and "colored people" or "coloreds" or "mulatto"? What kind of response would he get? Doesn't "negro" literally mean "black/dark"? Not the word "nigger", but the original word "negro" that was widely used throughout the U.S. and Europe. So what kind of response would that get? BTW, I once knew someone who grew up in North America, in an immigrant family that came from the Indian subcontinent. He would correct anyone calling them Indian or referring to Hindus etc. He would emphasize that they were Punjabi, from Punjab, and are Sikhs. That's a different religion to Hinduism. Of course, the part of Punjab that they were from - the east - IS in India, so in terms of nationality, it's correct to call them Indians (citizens of the state of India). But the area of Punjab, and the history of the groups of people who lived there, far predates the modern borders of the star of India.

Over seas workers are very common. Both mothers and fathers if given the opportunity to provide even more for their families will take it even if it means leaving the family behind. The biggest issue I would see if it were to happen is if Johnny were to come to see her for the first time and brought his son with him. As a parent you have to put your children first regardless of your own issues. So if he brought his son to see her right away and hadn't vetted her properly before bringing his child around her; then that could create issues for his child. It's especially true since his son is very young.

Chinese parents living away from their own children doesn’t seem to be too uncommon. A friend I knew in high school lived with his dad, who opened a restaurant, and two brothers, while his mother lived in China with his two other brothers. When my friend turned 12, everyone moved to the US and finally lived together. Another friend lives in Venezuela with her husband while her two kids stayed with their grandparents. She told me she preferred that her kids were educated in China, and the business they have in Venezuela helps pay the bills.

I remember a quote i read before about how the cost of dreaming is not living. I think this applies to her. I was bullied as a child too and has spent most of my time immersing myself in anime. But aside from that, I joined a gym, actively socialize, join a choir, a theater and a journalism group. I also worked towards a career. Im still totally an anime fan. Even my husband recognizes that when im sad i most likely am just too enmeshed in a fanfiction im reading ahhaha. Point is, you just cant fantasize all the time. I empathize with her because I was in that route before but she needs to face reality and actually work on her issues

Hi love your videos! I love how you brought up the fact how TLC altered the translation for what the doctor said. That’s quite subtle to be noticed. Also I think he left his kid behind probably because his kid needs to keep up with the school work and if he came to the US he wouldn’t able to get back that easily with the current travel restrictions that China has (at least 28 days).
