This concertina can now be heard on an album that was launched yesterday in Milltown Malbay being played by Mary MacNamara, Josephine Marsh, Jacqueline McCarthy, Dympna O'Sullivan, Ann Droney Curran, and Angela Crotty.

That's an absolutely lovely sounding concertina, and well played!

@52Paddy1991 Thanks so much for posting the name. I have been faithfully practicing it - and Ella Mae would be proud!

No rushing through it... no fancy shmancy ornamentation, no trying to imitate other instruments, just driving pure concertina. Reminds me a lot of Chris Droney. She's lovely.

The fine old style with plenty of tight triplets, octaves. chords and repeating rhythmic melody notes. If you listen to the West Clare whistle master Micho Russell you will hear this almost lost style of music.

Fascinating video and great playing. Interesting that the air button seems to be much higher than usual and it looks like she is playing it with her index finger rather than thumb. Also no fretwork on the sides?

I don't think this is the concertina played on the CD referred to by Gary, below. That concertina is a big old 2-row German yoke. This one here looks to be a taped up Lachenal.
@Legacyrxawd5 жыл бұрын
It's the same player David. She was playing the old German one when Neil Wayne & John Tams recorded her in 1974, but her daughter bought the Lachenal, and a Jeffries, off me after that.
