Ella's FIRST LANDING | Why We Use Rudder In A Stall

Picture this: You're early in your PPL training and you've just started taming the controls of the aircraft. It's finally becoming stable and then your instructor forces you to do some stalls. It's not an easy task, certainly when adding a lot of rudder control into the mix. Well this is Ella's task today. We've all done some ugly stalls before, but that's why your instructor is there not only to keep you safe and show you the right way, but to encourage you when you need it.
Enjoy the flight!

Every time I watch one of these with a pretty green student you continue to impress me how positive and encouraging you are with them. Teaching one on one is such a complicated matter, I really wonder how I'll do once I get there.

As someone who is at a very similar stage of training, I can relate to almost every moment in this one! Keep up the great Ella! And Lew, great working on the teaching moments! How you delivery the message and the desired learning outcome is first class!

Great video! When I was a student, I had the same confusion about the ball not being in the cage. I learned that staring at the ball during a power on stall is useless. Now I keep my eyes outside and judge the movement of the nose against either clouds in the distance, or the ground off the edge of the dash. It's the best way to get visual real-time information about yaw during the maneuver.

9:43 That's awesome! I wish the yahoos who fly cross-country in their cubs at pattern altitude discussing their weekend with their buddies had 1/4 the radio discipline as the radio transmission she just gave. Well done!

I am in the middle of my PPL so not a lot of street cred but letting her go ahead and stall it into an "almost spin" was great. I teach medical students and Residents. They learn the most when they almost mess up.@@LewDixAviation

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you need to write every time you get an weather report?
@LewDixAviation
@LewDixAviation 4 ай бұрын
Don’t apologise.. it’s a great question. You want to write everything down that you think is important. Winds, visibility, clouds, temperature/dewpoint, altimeter setting, runway in use and any notams that they announce on there 🙌🏻 EFB’s have specific scratchpads for the ATIS with sections for you to write everything in. Makes it simple.
