Her first name is Isabelle not Elisabeth. Huppert; One of our best actual actresses in France.

I think Paul Verhoeven is a fascinating director. Even when he made 'RoboCop', 'Total Recall' and even 'Starship Troopers', he managed to make tongue-in-cheek satire in a clever way. Very much looking forward to this movie and, as always, enjoyed watching your review.

I love your speaking style, even though the review is long, it is interesting. The analysis is also superb.

Excellent review. I still don't know to feel about this movie in terms of theme and message. But I know that I really respect the hell out of Isabelle Huppert. Even though she's critically lauded, I feel like she's still one of the most underrated actors out there. She's truly fearless.

Paul Verhoeven said this movie was his rebellious protest against genre and all its cliches. I love that and is exactly how I felt watching it and even as it's film length is over 2 hours, I was intensely focused on every single moment and detail. Phenomenal directing and highly recommended for anyone looking for an escape from the formulaic & predictable, commercial movies and the typical Hollywood/American film. Possibly this could be a great open door into international or "foreign" films for those who've yet to make that liberating step in thought provoking and critically nuanced entertainment.

I got this movie on Blu-Ray. It's one of my most anticipated movies of the year, but sadly that Blu-Ray was Region B so I can't watch it just yet. I'm very excited for it, thanks for another fantastic review!

I can't wait to see this. Ever since I saw Isabelle Huppert in The Piano Teacher I've always been intrigued by what she does......Maggie, would you consider doing a video of your top five favorite foreign films? I would be interested in finding out your choices and hearing your thoughts...
@deepfocuslens7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'll probably just review more foreign films.

colaguy29229 her character in Elle is very similar to the one she plays in the piano teacher.

Such a shame it wasn't included in the Oscar foreign language film selection.

Great review! I wouldnt call this '"non-spoiler" though

I also recommend you check out "The Black Book (2006)", which is another movie directed by Paul Verhoeven. It is like "Inglorious Bastards" but more mashocistic and 10 times more kinky. If you loved "Elle" you will definitely love this.

love your reviews, wonder what do you think of paul verhoeven other more political films (robocop, starship troopers) and if you're a fan I can recommend his old dutch movies...soldiers of orange, spetters

I may have asked you before, but you gotta do a review of The Remains of the Day, its about a man's missed opportunity and sense of duty. It stars Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. Please try and watch this film one day Deepfocus, Id like to hear your take of the film.

Great movie... I don't mind watching foreign films at all and this movie does great as is, but I really with it had been made in the USA simply to add nuance and to counter the crazy politically correct ideology

I will in January. I'm not a critic so I don't get early screenings. I game a little bit, but not enough to do a top 10 of the year.

I look forward to the list. I am amazed you have so few sub's. Kind regards, Paul from the UK.

Plus, I would recommend watching a film called, Pump Up the Volume. For all it's 90's dated vibe and message, it is an interesting film. Kind regards Paul.
@Vonklieve7 жыл бұрын
It was released at cinema in 1990 in the UK, then VHS and DVD. I think it had universal appeal.

DOESN'T "ELLE" GET RAPED AND DOESN'T REPORT THE GUY?? WHAT KIND OF MOVIE IS THAT??
@deepfocuslens7 жыл бұрын
If that's what you take away from the film, then you are missing the entire point of it.
@mckenna86637 жыл бұрын
deepfocuslens tell me what you think the point of the whole thing is . because we just went to see it and I just thought it was crappy. We wondered how a movie that we didn't like so much is on so many critics top list. So help me out here. What do you think the point is and why did you like it so much?
@Stephen05607 жыл бұрын
Is the film subtitled? Unless it's dubbed, I won't go see it.
