I did know because she was Mick Jones (Clash) girlfriend. So I bought this album. I loved it, I'm still loving it. What a beatiful voice. ❤

Ellen was dating Mick Jones of The Clash at the time he produced this album for her- The Spirit Of St. Louis. They recorded this album at the same time The Clash were recording their Sandinista! album, so a lot of the band members and studio musicians appear on both albums. Just some trivia for trivia's sake.

I remember it well, I was working in record stores at the time. Ellen's records were played a lot in our store. Great artist and criminally overlooked.

Spirit of St Louis is a very quiet 80$ recording. Thank for the fanfare. Im a child of the 80s..

The second track on the album, Torchlight, is a duet with Mick Jones and sounds like a Sandinista outtake. Highly recommended for any Clash fan.

I first heard the album when it was released and was blown away. Such a unique voice, and the whole album has, as some else put it, a bohemian feel to it. And so underrated..

Written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones of the Clash; the latter was dating Ellen at the time. The Clash played on this album. You can hear alot of 'Sandinista!'

Minor hit in Netherlands (#45) and Australia (#48) in 1981. It is a bit strange in that although it was written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, and produced by Jones, it sounds like 70s Europop. Apart from the somewhat sassy lyrics, I could imagine Nana Mouskouri singing it.

A beautiful song from a beautiful album. Would love to see the full clip with the dancing men & women - seems more "threatening" and "deeper" than this straight interpretation of the lyrics.

To the sons of Europe: won't you come inside My shuttered palace and I am the bride Now I'm a woman, I walk past your café To the sons of Europe, I call out and say Now as I stroll down your boulevard You hear those Fiats and taxis Blow their horns so hard When I go out walking Flocks of birds rise from the square And all the seigneurs and monsieurs Pull up to the curb Ah To the sons of Europe: won't you come inside My shuttered palace and I am the bride Now I'm a woman, I walk past your café To the sons of Europe, I call out and say My shuttered palace lies away from the sun It isn't far, there, a little further So why don't you come? You call out your offers to me in your mother tongue But you don't act so macho When I ask you to come Ah To the sons of Europe: won't you come inside My shuttered palace and I am the bride Now I'm a woman, I walk past your café To the sons of Europe, I call out and say Ah To the sons of Europe: won't you come inside My shuttered palace and I am the bride Now I'm a woman, I walk past your café To the sons of Europe, I call out and say
