You need to give examples of this rating nonsense. The lady had fans all over, critical acclaim and the hottest songwriters handed her their work. You need to get away from following the pack, writing KZbin cliches like "under-rated".

I bought this album and her second album. A powerful voice with no peers. She should have been huge. She had Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson on her first album, and The Clash on her second and it still wasn't enough. Bad marketing, and some self-inflicted wounds.

Hunter and Ronson really utilised Ellen on this album, giving her an almost Wall of Sound backdrop for a voice which is elite tier. The covers were brilliant, Timi Yuro and Jagger/Richards show how grounded in R&R and R&B both are. If they'd produced her 2nd album imho she would've become a global megastar. A sensational debut!

I loved Night Out and bought the follow up album on the strength of that. It was terrible and a waste of my limited money back in those times. I thought you couldn't go wrong with that voice, but you can with the wrong song choices and lesser producers.

The lyrics ... The burning sun hangs over the city You and me baby, we don't feel nothing at all From nine to five we're lost This life ain't so pretty But when the sun goes down We know that we can stay and talk I just can't wait For the night to come Cause when the shadows covers the light We're the only ones Cause baby, we We belong to the night Yes, baby, we We belong to the night By day we just survive But after dark, we come alive Cause baby, we We belong to the night Dancin' on the street In the heat of the neon The quiet in the cool night air Makes it easy to breathe The music that we hear in our hearts Gives us something to dream of Cause when that lonely soul that calls It's those dreams that we'll need To keep us strong To take us far Far away from the pain of the days Cause that's a cruel mental start Cause baby, we We belong to the night Yes, baby, we We belong to the night By day we just survive But after dark, we come alive Cause baby, we We belong to the night We belong to the night Yes, yes baby, we We belong to the night By day we just survive But after dark, we come alive Cause baby, we We belong to the night We belong to the night We belong to the night Ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
