I had the same journey with Beat Saber last year, and what I realized as I was trying to get better was just how similar reading the blocks in Beat Saber is to reading notes in music or even just reading in general. its the best rythm game there is. it actually makes you move and not just boringly flail your arms or even just your wrists like beat saber. you dont need to move in BS at all. like just standing still not even moving your arms is the best way to get higher scores because using only wrist is faster. its so...urgh. but synthriders you are actually motivated to move your whole body to it. Edit: also BS devs are trash. breaking mods every singe update so it becomes so inconvienient to use custom songs that they force you to pay their overpriced DLC. while synthriders has mod support build in. You can just dl a song and use it. or use their official mod tools to add your own song.

I love Beat Saber so much, been playing it off and on almost since it came out! And yes I absolutely love when Ellen mentioned the "don't think too much" bit since that's 100% my experience, my favorite times are where (especially the first time playing a song) it's just full head empty swinging through, fully moving with the flow of the song without even really *seeing* the blocks! Although, when she mentioned someone doing too big of movements all I could think was "Ellen!! That's how you get the bigger points!" Since swing....angle I think it is?...is part of what goes into the points you get for hitting the block.

I'm trying and succeeding to lose weight through walking at the gym and beat saber during winter while going on walks constantly during the spring and summer and early fall. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away when I was about 4 stone less spherical, I did some martial arts - wado ryu karate, among others. Watching Ellen there's a me from that time that wonders if she ever did anything of that sort? A lot of smaller statured people tend to assume they'll just get out muscled in martial arts, but things like Karate (or tae-kwon-do etc ) are mostly 'stand-up-and-hit' styles in which footwork and speed can intuitively dominate strength. I realise she might just not be very inclined towards martial arts, but I suspect, looking at her playing here, she'd crush it in her weight category, and probably to a good extent beyond that. Not to mention almost any style of fencing - even historical longsword fencing only uses a sword weighing a few Kg at most. Ellen in full plate, halfswording? It might put a new spin on 'Ellen's Fear Academy' :D

Nothing came to mind at all for me based on that title and I just figured, "it's some eurodance track that never got big over here." Then Luke being very confused at the idea it was a good fit for DDR made me recalibrate, but then Ellen started humming the Ode to Joy, which I have heard dance remixes of, and that's not what that were called. around that point I stopped making guesses. Was this just some remix that was originally made for use in that DDR rather than something pre existing that was known for any other reason?

I love Beat Saber but it is hell on my wrists. If that happens to anyone else, a good alternative game is Synth Riders which plays very similarly but instead of having to hit notes you just touch them and you end up feeling like a club kid. It sounds too easy but the higher difficulties are intense and involve just as much arm movement, just without the wrist shock that I get from Beat Saber. It’s a lot of fun.
@PLAYER_42069 Жыл бұрын
Ellen & Luke being good at Souls games and also Beat Saber and racing sims makes perfect sense because they all require a good sense of rhythm (timing) to do well. It's the theoretical "flow" state when you're playing a game, but it seems like the game is playing itself because you're making all the right moves without even thinking about it. Also, contracts and workload aside, I don't see why Luke, Ellen et al. can't have separate KZbin channels that focus on their passions e.g. Rhythm games for Ellen, Sim Racing for Luke, etc.

Ellen story reminded me of good ol times. So I will share the story. I was hyped about BeatSaber because I liked rhythm games despite playing only few of them on PC. On one convention I found a stand with BeatSaber. Two songs or two tries. Who beats hard gets a coupon. I started with normal it was not hard at all, so I tried hard and finished it, thou with mistakes. I stood in line 2nd time and tried expert. That was a mistake. Too fast, too many. After maybe a year I found a friend who invited me to play when I was just delivering him some stuff. After that I got used to it. Hard became quite comfortable and I started to try expert levels when this game transformed into the game for parties for us. Later, I got mine own VR and at that time I was trying expert+ levels and now I conquered them. My friends could do even better (some crazy custom expert+ levels or just Camelia levels). Now unfortunately I don't have much time, but maybe I should go and play it again. P.S. "Swashbuckling" level Rum'n'Bass is even more exiting on Expert +, also you can try 1 sword mode for a different, but also great experience on that level

One thing I remember learning when I played flute in middle and high school was that my director said that if something sounds like it's easy then the performers are doing it right. By that, if I heard a band or a flautist playing a piece I knew to be difficult and they made it sound easy, then they were damn good. That's what Ellen is doing. When we see her playing Beat Saber near the end she makes it look so easy and casual, because she's that good at the game she makes it look effortless.

As someone who’s decently skilled in Beat Saber, here’s a few tips to get into expert+. Override default colours: find 2 colours you are comfortable with, as this makes it easier to recognise which hand is left and which is right when going to different songs. Try dissapearing arrows: this forces you to look ahead a bit and makes a habit of moving your sabers on insinct. Usually when you cut a note, the next cut on the same hand will be in the opposite direction, usually… Last tip is to just play semi regularly, you’ll get the hand of it over time. Take the plunge when you’re ready and soon you’ll feel the notes moving slower and slower. Practice makes perfect. Good luck 👍 Edit:typo

Personally, I really love Beat Saber up to and including hard difficulty. And the reason I don't like the difficulty settings beyond hard is not so much that I think it's too hard, but the fact that I very much enjoy doing big swooping motions with my arms, where on those higher difficulties, you don't really have time for that and it's all more in the wrist. Yay, a rhythmgame-focused SotWE :D Ellen's totally right about just 'zoning' out and basically let your body do the movements without concentrating too hard. There's a ... "flow" to good chart where the next thing follows from the previous one. Seems Ellen has that down! I wish I were better at Beat Saber, but my arms just go numb for a week :\ I'm better at the foot-games. Funnily enough, DDR is sort of at the bottom of these. If you can find it in an arcade, I can recommend Pump It Up (PIU). It's 5 panels rather than 4, which allows for greater variation, and the charts tend to focus more on flow rather than timing so it does feel more like normal dancing. Especially from difficulty 8 and up they throw crossovers and twists at you that lead you all over the pad. And then there's doubles where you use both pads and co-op where you play with up to 5 people simultaneously! I can also recommend Chunithm and Mai Mai. For the former, look for a piano, and for the latter something resembling a washing machine.

I can't do anything but agree that affter you get used to the more dificult levels, the easy ones with tons of waiting and slow notes get a lot harder. I've maily played the project diva games, (and a bunch of different arcade games), but it is true for just about every rythm game I've played. It's always fun trying out a new game where you have to try and figure out what level you want to be at while learing, where it's challenging enoughtr but you still get to learn the controls and style of the game xD

*as I sip a shot of honey whisky* Ellen: "fallout good boy" A brief pause. *slow clap, satisfied grin* I picked the right video to end my night with. Thanks for helping me through the harder times. Luke and Ellen remind me so much of my bestest buddy and myself, and it brings me an unquantifiable amount of joy whenever I see the two of them goofing around together. I've never seen a closer equivalent of how my dearest friend and myself interact with eachother. I truly hope Ellen and Luke have the opportunity to be close friends for the rest of their long lives. If so, the world will be a better place because of it.

Congrats on reaching an expert. I remember being so excited to have broken through that difficulty barrier. Good luck with those expert+ levels
