Love your winter scene! I am new to watercolor and I have done acrylics for years and thank you for tip about using an acrylic brush. I have lots of stiff acrylic brushes. Yay, I didn't ruin the new tooth brush I got for snow!

I love the watercolor paper you use. It is magical, especially watching the trees bleed out and blend. Will get some, after I practice a bit more, for I want my trees to do this! Thanks, Ellen.

I wanted to pay particular attention to how soothing your voice is when you teach. Watercolor is such a restful way to make art, and listening to you allows me to relax as I learn. Your trees are gorgeous and the entire painting has a magical winter feel. Of course, you know about splattering with a toothbrush! 😉. Oh yes, I have a question. Since I don’t have very nice paper yet, but I will when I have a coupon and it’s not nuts in the big box art stores. My question is, how can I make my Mission Gold watercolor have the look of your trees, prior to painting Branches? I have struggled with this on my current Canson paper?

thank you so much!

I know the feeling . Cellulose paper (I started with canson XL) just won't diffuse like cotton watercolor paper. A paper called Bee Paper makes a 100% cotton paper really affordable and easy to work with. It comes in packs of 25 to 50, 6x9 sheets on Amazon for 12 to 14 dollars usually. Arches was just to expensive for me to practice on. Two years later having increased my skill a bit, I still don't like Arches paper. It is very unforgiving. Walmart also online has the bee paper sheets. The bee paper pads are cellulose usually so just a heads up. It's hard to find out about paper I had found, as a beginner. Though I still use cellulose papers for some things. Even student grade paints look good on cotton paper though and it doesn't have to come down to do I eat or buy decent paper?
@cheryl74764 жыл бұрын
Annette, I’m an “eat first, then buy art supplies, although, hubby thinks it’s the reverse. Thanks for the head up. I’m ready for cotton paper and will save the Canson for other art projects and for the neighbor kids to do projects with me, here in my home. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know, Annette.
