Makes sense as most time periods are remembered by the most flamboyant part of it, and the common folk are usually not as well known.

First of all, thank you very much for your lovely, generous words. I'm very touched. I love your reactions to the cocktails, especially the last two. Let's get the world showing some love for the Princess again. 👸

I cannot fathom creaming cucumber. You are a brave woman! The fish souffle looked really nice. "Unwilling independent agent" and "who is Al Dente" made me laugh out loud. I may steal the Al Dente line. :)

It was...odd. But not unpleasant! Ha I was so pleased with myself with that pun and then my husband told me it's an old one - I'm not as original as I think I am!

When I think if the 1920's I think more about Berlin and then the speakeasys in America then just the glamorous stuff.

What an enjoyable video! Post WWI cooking still remained quite labour intensive especially with the lack of “help”. What with all that mixing, preparing, cooking and straining and numerous pots, pans, ladles and bowls until one reached the final product dinner must have taken ages and most likely prepared over a day or two. And what a lot of washing up “someone” had to do while the hostess was knocking back the cocktails.

Oh yes very labour intensive. In most middle class households yhere was still an expectation of a hot meal on the table every day, with or without a cook - and this was before a time of convenience food, so everything made from scratch. Thank god for dishwashers is all I can say (I shudder at the idea of doing all that washing up by hand each and every day!)

French 75s are sneaky. I make them for parties-one, and the world steps back. Two, and I take your car keys and call you a cab. I have not seen anyone drink 3 and be able to walk unassisted. Extra points if you make them with Bluecoat Gin which is wonderful stuff! Lovely meal and drinks!

Excellent stuff! Fabulous outfit. I'm a bit jealous. Liked your choice of recipes... and dead impressed you did a soufflé! I do like the odd cocktail or three so I will be looking into this more closely. What a great idea getting The Aperitif Guy on board. He's fantastic!

It’s really quite strange to hear someone describing my cocktail palate so exactly! I might try that last one. I might make a little batch of creme de cacao rather than buying it. There’s a very high chance I’ll only use it once 😂😂😂 I bought a little 200ml bottle of gin a few months ago because I realised I’d never tasted it. I’ve had one drink lol. Turns out I’m not a fan of tonic but it was alright in my favourite orange and mango soft drink. I’m not sure if that defeats the purpose. I kinda sorta want to try a Pimms but it’s such a big bottle and it isn’t cheap so if I don’t like it it’s just a waste. Do you like Pimms? Given we seem to have the same palate for these things perhaps you liking something can be a good sign that I’ll probably like it!

I hate tonic too, but flavoured gins I'm ok with. I basically have a child's palate when it comes to alcohol! I like pimms with ginger ale more than with lemonade. But I don't think I LIKE it, more that it's so popular over here in summer time it's sort of what you have to drink in summertime, at least once. I do like a cosmo...!

@@thepastisaforeignpantry5218 I call the kind of drinks that I like lolly water lol. If it’s sweet and I can barely taste any alcohol, there’s a chance I’ll like it 😂😂😂 Okay, I think I might skip the Pimms then. I actually looked at the description of it in my supermarket app and it says it has quinine, so that’s the flavour in tonic. Knowing that, plus you not loving it, I don’t need a 700ml bottle of it! Maybe in summer I’ll try to make a drink that’s sort of similar but without the tonic flavour. Or maybe I won’t get around to it and that bottle will stay untouched for a year or so 😂😂😂 Don’t think I’ve ever had a cosmo. Will give one a try. Back in the day when I went to bars (only ever occasionally, but these days it’s never) I tended to go for a daiquiri as it was a pretty sure bet it would be okay. I have discovered an apple cider that’s quite nice so I’m not totally pathetic. Only mostly pathetic 😂😂😂 Thanks so much for answering. I really appreciate it.
