Price from original home was 50k.......after expanding and growing the business the price was brought down to 60k....... Not saying I dislike this idea but we gotta keep it 💯. They are definitely providing cheaper alternatives to current builds BUT prices WILL continue to rise no matter what unfortunately.

WOW - Impressive. I've lived in tents, trailers, mobile homes, boats and RVs for the majority of my 77 years. So my comment has historical significance - cleverest housing idea I've ever seen. It provides solutions to so many housing issues. Expandable as needs increase. Portable if it must be. And as permanent as necessary. Great job to ALL involved. Thanks for this. So I was at IBS and got to walk the Boxabl product, some things really impressed me: the setup, the integration, the portability, the new design with the deck is pretty awesome. I also love the scale they are doing this at, complete game changer if they can pull it off! What was less impressive, was the finish quality while I was in there (Im a builder so maybe most people won't care?). Things generally hung out of square, and marks of hasty finishing everywhere, "RV on blocks" was a very unflattering comparison we heard while there. Mind you this is a house set up in a few days at a trade show so they deserve some grace, but it speaks to what will be the critical challenge with the product - it is not a magic bullet to construction, it's not going to solve your foundation, site and finish issues. I hope they are going to set up some serious education for their installer network to ensure quality. It sounds like the ultimate goal is to sell boxes to us builders and help speed the adoption of the technology, it would be a shame if that legacy is marked by poor workmanship. The specter of Katerra still hangs in the air, the caution is necessary! Hope they can figure it out!

This unit was a prototype and while it was built offsite, it had to be assembled quickly on site for the show. That may be why it wasn’t as refined as expected. They’re going to have a “Boxabl University” akin to McDs “Hamburger university” to train in transport, installation, and finish aspects of the units.
@arcbrush

That's what it looked like at the show, a mobile home but as lego. Also it's as expensive as building a regular house in my country, even more, and it would be a better quality. They might not succeed eventually, but I think it's a good think for the industry on the whole, big prefabs for some parts and preplanning.

@@arcbrush They’re working on Casita 2.0 which will be much improved in terms of design, quality and ability to be produced quickly. It should be introduced 4Q this year. They bought $15mil of equipment to automate its production. The outside can be clad in all kinds of different siding and roofs as well. Regarding an RV, an RV is notoriously weak in terms of structure. Things are always falling apart. The Casita has 6 inch solid walls clad in steel. It is inflammable and can take a sledgehammer to the walls and 1000s of pounds on the roof.

I love how no one likes to talk about pricing. The fact that these started off at around 40k and then went up to 50k and now they're up to 60K a box. and they haven't even hit the streets yet. They're Still in the production phase. The two-story model looks like three boxes stacked on top of each other so I would imagine that would be 180K. Not to mention that you still have to buy/rent the land that can cost you another 50K. That's great if you live in a very expensive place like California. But here in Chicago, that's the price you would expect to pay for this size home. The benefit will be the fact that it's brand new and you don't have to do any remodeling. And I'm talking about an average cheap house. Not some big beautiful Victorian in a gated community 🤨 But now you got to tack on the price of the land, And more $ if you want to add a garage. So this is still not quite an affordable home if you look at the big picture. I'm having container home vibes. And every year from this day forward the prices are just going to go up as wages stay stagnant. In 2024 they will be 70k a box 🤦🏾‍♂️. 2025 up to 80k, in 2026 pushing 90k. And the more people that want them, the higher the prices will be. This seems more like a add on to your existing house.

Inflation
@dylankmorgan
@dylankmorgan Жыл бұрын
He hinted that the cost of the alternative boxes would be less since they have less features inside than the Casita. Inflating costs have hit every industry. They did not anticipate having significantly higher input costs like we have had the past few years. Extrapolating a $10k per year price increase is a big assumption and unlikely, considering they are focused on decreasing their input costs right now. It seems to me that they intend to bring price points downward or stay flat. I also think that the future 20x40 and 20x60 dimensions will have a significantly lower cost per foot than the 20x20's stuck together. Regardless, if they can stay cost competitive compared to stubbornly rising traditional housing prices, that's still a win. The more substitutes that create downward price pressure on stick built houses, the better.

It is possible, but if they increase much more it will be hard for them to sell. I fell they will be more expensive then mobile homes, but cheaper then homes being a nice middle ground. Only time will tell, but I hope they do well because having more competition to help home prices drop is just a good thing.

Before considering this I would love to see 10,000 Boxabl casitas lived in for a few years in the tremors of California, hurricanes of Florida and winters of New England. It feels like Boxabl is trying to sell me a Big Mac before cooking the hamburger I ordered. Lots of hype and push for investment money, little on the side of products that people can actually buy anytime in the near future.
@rule1capital
@rule1capital Жыл бұрын
Boxabl only started assembly line production for 1st time in Q4 2021 (16 months ago)... They built 33 units in Q4 2021... And 123 more units in 1st half of 2022, to finish 156 unit order for Department of Defense... And Boxabl completed production of their 300th unit, right before Christmas 2022 (so ~270 units produced in 2022)... Units produced in 2nd half 2022 were going to a remote Arizona Mine... Boxabl wants to deliver early units to non-consumers in the first couple years, to test them out and make change for "Generation 2" Casitas, which are planned to enter production in 2023... So, unlike others who want to be the 1st to live in these units, you actually want to wait and see to believe... Not a bad plan, let the bulk order customer clients be the guinea pigs before direct-to-consumer sales...

I didn’t see any laundry facilities. Also I think the kitchen makes more sense on the second floor with easy access to the deck. I just think about everyone tromping through my room to get to the deck and wincing. Imagine if the sink had an accordion pass-thru window to the deck then the plumbing would be on the wall central to the house. It could line up with the bathrooms downstairs and be easier to insulate against colder climates since nothing would be on an outside wall except the kitchen sink. It’s a fun idea of a build but I see a lot of tweaking needed and imagine the best first customers will be the ones that give firsthand insight to those tweaks.

This would solve the homeless issue by people being able to have a roof for 29K-50K, which will last until its death, so nobody would have to keep paying slavery rent prices their whole life. Not a single politician wants this because rich building owners and construction companies are giving them money. Politicians from the right and the left don't care about the people. I'm curious if they're looking into fully modular housing with this idea. Essentially, each square = X price, and can serve Y purpose, but you can attach them at will to each other as long as you have the "right" piece. For example, I can totally see the living area in this 2 story model hooking onto another unit that could serve as a recreational area, or additional bedroom space. Then, connect an another unit on top of that that hooks up to the Master bedroom to allow for a huge Master, 4-5 bed, 3 bath home with a deck and kitchen. If the original was paired down to $50k with all appliances, it would be really cool to see the general use rooms be cut down to 30-40k, and be a "buy as you need" model. Absolutely incredible idea.

Yes that's exactly what they're doing here. This 2 story design is 3 of their boxes combined together. You can customize them to fit your needs. @@rule1capital Not nitpicking at all, thank you for the correction. I saw it in the video, don't know why I left it out in my comment. My current area 3br, 2.1 bathrooms is going for $400-$600k+ for a well lived in home so this was quite refreshing to think you could plop one of these down somewhere for $150-250k whatever they end up being sans site preparation. Excited to see what the future holds if this is the beginning.

If I were a well off person I would purchase land to put different styles of Boxabl homes on it like having a community of Boxable homes. I would give people the option to purchase the homes from me or to rent them or maybe even rent to own. Something has to be done about the working homeless and low income people that can not afford rent for these high priced apartments. I would rather have something like this than the other alternative where the major cities in the US start looking like the shanty towns of South Africa and India. The Boxable homes are not fancy but they still look nice and much better than shanty towns.

Have you thought of, for the future builds that you want larger models is to stand today's build length and unfold the whole four or six panels that presently include floor, ceiling, and two wall and keep all the same but on cnc have the windows and all, just rotate 90°, have 4 say Casitas on end unroll to make a two story home outside walls, when its 20' long make it tall 20' then. join those together keep a center core like the kitchen inner wall with all the main elements of plumbing, electric and Kitchen any brains of the house in that core where that needs to happen and that is one floor unrolled for the same but also the walls are structural for the 2nd floor. Spiral stairs will be on the out side where another outside door cut out will be added and just have fastener components to drop on the walls edges will house the reciprocal fastener and it will attach the three hinged walls for the staircase to the outside wall with floor to keep it square. Bottom core can be structured to hold 2nd floor so outside walls don't bare the whole 2nd floor. Then another core upstairs to have bathroom and and wall attached closet and storage to 9.5 feet and a custom ladder added to place and store their items only used occasionally but they won't part with. 9.5 feet is Great as if shallow cabinets can be option. Most of the new plant might use 3d cad draw to place all fasteners alignments for any new models or custom fixtures stored in CNC memory to just scroll and press start never use a tape in that department again just hang the components and they are exactly mounted and all hole and electrical chases all cut bye CNC. Wire harnesses prewired and cut to length and striped ends for 110v or any needs couplings in place where all ends are just snapped together. So it's interchangeable wall pannels and all wall cutouts rolled 90° and if needed structured edge brackets installed to be bearing for 2nd floor.

I love this new build. As a parent I would have two critics: first, how to childproof the stairway for toddlers. Seems like it would t have an easy way to use a gate. Same age group: there isn’t an easy way to clean baby toddler or child up to 6. Usually a parent is still helping with bath time and this shower isn’t an easy thing for mom /dad to scrub a child down in without getting in herself. When Boxabl starts building 20x40 units at next scale of Megafactory... You could get a "free" walkout patio, without giving up the square footage, by offset aligning a 2nd story 20x40 15 feet over the 1st story 20x40...
