I live about 20 miles from GigaAustin. I've been watching it under construction for the past 18 months or so. I've also been near the MacGregor site while visiting a nearby state park and hearing them test rocket engines in the distance. It's only about 5-6 hours drive to Boca Chica and I've made that pilgramage twice now to visit and watch the development there. You haven't lived until you have stood on the side of a two lane county road and watched a 9 meter wide and 50 meter tall rocket roll past you, so close you could hit it with a rock!

Silicon valley was an area that converted to high tech and was a very high density city long before it changed to a high tech center. Now we see Austin surrounded by acres and acres of open land that with Tesla as the driving force will build from the ground up a new epicenter for technology. It's going to shake up the tech structure of the entire world.

Yes silicon valley isn't facing Elon and Tesla as the enemy but California's own anti business liberal agenda. California has no one to blame for Austin's wooing Tesla as a company but its self. As we see the whole tech industry is starting to pack up to leave. It's the beginning of California's fall from grace. In 10 years or less 100s of billions of dollars in business growth will be in Texas that would have been in California if they hadn't ran them off. The tax base that giga Austin represents alone is massive. Add in SpaceX, Neuralink, Boarding company, and all the rest that are moving there to support them and we see California's kissing its future goodbye. Even California can't stand the hit its given itself.

DelValle was a dump before they put the new airport out there. It's been improving over the years since. Austin has been called Silicon Hills since the 90's at least. I worked in IT for years, starting back in the early 90's. Every major computer company has an office in Austin. During the dot com boom, every building had a dot com name. For over three decades, Austin has been one of the fastest-growing large cities in the US. Probably top three every year.

This time what went on in Vegas will not stay in Vegas!! I met both Britney Spears and Elon Musk early in 2000 at Bellagio. Britney just stared at me as she was singing on stage and I was standing in an archway above and nearby. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be standing up there by myself but I did have her undivided attention. A few days later Elon came up to me and started asking me questions about what I was doing there, in Hawaii and Las Vegas during that time. Would I be fine answering a few questions and if I was a gambling man? I stated, "I was on vacation and I only like to bet on things that are worth betting on!" I had earned these trips by qualifying reward points at my work. He asked, "What kind of work is it that you do?" I said, "Commercial energy saving promotions but I had been schooled in Automotive Marketing Business Administration and worked in that field for several years as well." He asked me, "If I had millions of dollars to spend what would be the most innovative businesses that could help humanity?" We talked about electric cars, we talked about solar energy and so many other subjects for over an hour. Even commercial space exploration for the consideration of colonization. That way all of humanity's eggs are not in one basket in case of another world war, asteroid strike, major climate change, etc. These we're very expensive and ambitious businesses to become successful at. Therefore we had to talk about ways of keeping a low overhead in advertising, distribution and the manufacturing. He said, "They were all very good ideas and that they should be done!" He said he had already made hundreds of millions off of a couple internet companies he started. "One of them was PayPal," he stated. Not that I had really done a lot of online banking or e-transfers at that time I didn't think much of it, until I noticed online about a year later that I could buy something off the computer with my PayPal card! Unfortunately I had just received a promotion as regional manager with the company I was working with. This made me let Elon know that I had to wait for a few years before I could assist further. I keep on sending out messages, hoping that he will get one and reply back. I will probably have to keep on trying, he gets more messages in a day then I would in five years! It is very inspiring to me to have a conversation with someone and they dedicate the next 20 years to making our conversation reality! We also talked about becoming your own best supplier and starting businesses that help your existing business. A type of slingshot effect that he has incorporated very well. It is so ambitious and amazing that he was willing to put pretty much all of his money where his mouth is and just make it happen with a consistent dedication. Congratulations Elon and I am looking forward to working with you again, one day in the near future! And of course Britney I always wish her well and would enjoy meeting her again as well! Shoot for the Moon then Mars and then we will end up amongst the Stars! If you would like to learn more of these topics let me know. propower101@hotmail.com

My wife has family in Austin, and we're spending about a month down there in a long-term rental next month. It'll be interesting to see how much things have changed since last time we were down there. Looking on the map, Giga Texas is just a few miles south of not the main Austin airport, but Austin Executive. I've flown my plane into there a few times and it was a pretty casual one-runway operation with the usual small-airport amenities, but now I see they've got a control tower and a lot of construction going on, which I can only imagine is due to increased demands by the new industry and business expansion on the east side of Austin!

I Live in Houston. I have family that ived and went to school is Austin decades ago, when Austin was a bustling college town; and State Capital. Austin was the Beatnik hub of Texas. Live music, spiritual and social/romantic enlightenment was the atmosphere. As incomes rose, the political climate changed. Austin is progressive, but with a conservative undertone. If it bring money into the Austin economy, it's welcome. Austin has a very young demographic. Mostly because the college graduates stayed and took root; built families and businesses in and around Austin. That is likely what attracted Elon Musk to the area... It's young, adventurous, business mentality. PROGRESSIVE VISIONS for the future, in spite of the greatly, conservative, political environment. Texas was once all about Petroleum and Energy. But Science and Technology has 'drilled' its way in and is 'pumping away' Oil and Gas's control of the state.

What matt holm said at the beginning is not correct, they can not build 6 more of the phase 1 factories on the Tesla land as much of it is in the FEMA/austin floodplain and will not be used for structures or buildings. The Phase 1 is not in the floodplain, just like the area southwest of the highway and the storage area on the east. The 2nd land purchase up north with the 2 farm field are mostly outside the floodplain and can be used for building more offices for instance.

A big change is he set up a school for his own kids which teaches much less by getting students to memorize and the students work on problem solving skills instead. Work that into the elementary and high schools and this will produce a completely different culture and mindset of the residents so the innovating approach Tesla is famous for will be part of what the whole community does second nature because they learned this since kindergarten and it's been reinforced their whole lives. I have a pet dream that Tesla sets up a car factory in the Republic of Congo, in Africa. The only way they will do this is if they are allowed to help stabilize the region and bring this new approach to education in the schools... and set up their own mine for cobalt and other materials they need. Being fairly central in the continent of Africa is also an advantage. Just work on a stabilized government and emphasis on human rights. That would be a massive change for Africa. I can see Tesla involving themselves in a few schools in Germany as well. It may not be directly connected with the company. It could be a group of their employees doing this on their own without direct involvement from the company. If schools in Germany innovate how they teach, that would affect stability in Central Asia (in the long term). Let's see how things pan out. First, Austin and Berlin and the new Shanghai factories need to get up and running. Gonna take a while.

Not only has the ship not sailed, it's still tied to the dock and the boilers have just been lit. Stay positve in a sea of doubt and darkness. Massive fortunes that we have not seen in history have yet to be gained. Space is closer than ever.

I am a 40 year resident of Austin. Like many of us, we recognize upsides and some downsides. The old joke was, "Okay, now that I'm here, we're full, nobody else need come here." That didn't work then, and now is worse. Rising property values raise my property taxes. If I thought I could sell at a profit, I could scarcely afford a different expensive home. "Live music capital?" Musicians can't afford to live here. Traffic seems bad now, but it will be worse when all silicon valley gets here. Realtors like taking a cut off every inflated transaction, and now your video showcases these realtors. They didn't give you enough for this promotion.

‘So that flood plain is now going to drain into another area’ …yes, it’s going to drain into the Colorado, just as it has for several centuries….perhaps a millennia. And being a floodplain is why the contractors trucked in so much fill-dirt, to raise the elevation. Also why they used so many GeoPiers.

Years ago, the mill-owners in Lancashire, England, built cottages for the mill-workers. Mills were built next to the source of power; a river for water power or a canal for a supply of coal. They were hard times for the workers. Elon Musk is a modern-day mill-owner. Any idea how Elon is making life better for his workers, compared to centuries past?

It’s not so much about beating Silicon Valley or becoming the next Silicon Valley. It’s about having redundancies to Silicon Valley dispersed throughout the country. Ohio is becoming the “Silicon heartland” with the latest intel announcement. Just like Amazon is building many data centers dispersed throughout the states it builds in, if you have redundancies and onshore production of critical parts it bring more long term security to the US and reduces our dependence on imports and international supply chain.

Austin won't be the next silicon valley if they don't get control of housing inflation. That has ruined it for Silicon Valley & Seattle, and Boston before that.

Of course it will surpass California. The infrastructure in California is starting to age while in Austin the infrastructure will be new. Please notice how I was will be. Austin like the rest of Texas needs more electricity. However I can build a “Peaker” in less than 18 months and not have to jump through hoops to build one.

I love how Texas people always get so exited about their state. Not sure Tesla, when it’s all said and done, will have a main center of operation, the world is vast, and connected and the majority of cars and other products that Tesla makes will be sold abroad so no, Austin will be important but certainly not dominant.

On paper, Geothermal Units SOUND great but not in the long run. I managed a building for 12 years that had 72 geothermal units (high school) and they were a constant maintenance problem. Do not recommend them.
