I was in the audience for this, and it absolutely was the best vocals I have ever heard. Mary blew the roof off the place that night!

The best performance on American Idol finale because Elliot's Mom was there to see her son Perform and Mary J. Blige was there to add magic. Beautiful.

Y'all hear Elliott?? 😁👂🏼👂🏼 I get chills too hearing AND watching this performance! Mary could hardly wait to bust out of there. You can hear her in the background before she came out. THAT gave me chills too. But baby boy held it down singing his part. He represented and didn't get drowned out either. Pretty good for someone with a hearing impairment. Loved this performance. I'm still playing it in '22'. 😁

Loved this at the time and now. It's not easy for a male vocalist to duet live with MJB singing at that power level but Elliot Yamin did just that - in the U2 duet version, even Bono left MJB to complete the last raised outro lines solo, whereas Elliot harmonized to the end. And he had/has a hearing impairment. Released a nice first album too.

I love your comment (I know I'm a year late!) My favorite Elliot Yamin performance was his version of A Song For You. Also, I thought you might want to check out James Arthur's take on Mary J. Bligh's song No More Drama. He's competing on the UK X-factor. If you like these shows you might have seen him already but I though I'd mention it Cheers from Canada PS. I have a bit of Irish in me...I hope

You act like it's Mary's fault! The producers of the show set all the arrangements up and says who sings what. They practice all this. She's not on a high horse, if you knew anything about her you would know she's a very humble human being, and she loves Elliot.

Sigh wtf was that and why was she even there. Just constant runs and zero real vocal ability. Ruined it for elliot.
@ryanp43963 жыл бұрын
I've felt this since I've watched it live. Not only did she overrun him (not by vocal ability to be clear) and not give him the space to share the stage in a way that could have elevated the performance but she was just not that great despite trying to be louder with her voice and body movement. I get being passionate and all in but, as a professional especially, you need to understand that a duet is a COLLABORATION. Elliott may have recognized her as a famed experienced entertainer in the industry but at the end of the day, he treated her the way an actual duet partner should. MJB on the other hand felt the need to only take for the benefit of herself and not the team even though Elliot could have wiped the floor with her with his vocals.
@Kavi_Sedai3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanp4396 you nailed it! Yes, exactly, I agree completely!

She has vocal ability, for sure. I think the dissonance your experiencing is Mary bringing her R & B vocal technique and style to a pop rock song written for a male vocal.
@Kavi_Sedai2 жыл бұрын
@@47imagine I think too many people, including you, love the word dissonance way too much and like to use it in a sentence every chance you get. I am not experiencing dissonance. She sounds like crap and should have left the song to elliot. The end.
