I adore your recommendations and thoughtful reviews, it’s unlocking a new world of film for me, which I was hungry for. Hey Elliot! Thanks for the shoutout, that. meant a lot!! :) I am also a huge fan of Hausu, Double Indemnity and Sunrise! But the movies Punishment Park, Wake in Fright and Bakumatsu Taiyo-Den came directly out of left field, and I can't wait to check those out. I often find my Oppo 95-and especially my Pioneer Elite LX500- BD player's zoom control to be a very useful and fun tool to use-even if only briefly, to highlight aspects of scenes. While about 55% of my BD collection, from distros like Warners, Twilight Time and Kino, have zoom enabled, those like Criterion Collection, Universal, ShoutFactory and Sony have zoom disabled. So many good films in this list! Kes is a great film, but I have to watch with the subtitles on because the accents are really thick for my American ear. lol (Can't mention Kes without mentioning what a jerk the brother is!)...Seconds was definitely before it's time. I always read that it wasn't a success when it came out, and I always wonder why. It's great...Wake in Fright really makes me uneasy. The locals the teacher gets stranded among are nuts. And that scene with the jeep and kangaroos is very unsettling. But all that being said, it's a film I've scene several times because it's so compelling... And Paper Moon is one of my all-time favorites. When I read about it, it always gets me that Tatum O'Neal won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar when I think she has more screen time than her dad! I hate Oscar category fraud where lead actors get nominated in the supporting category so their chances of winning increase. Still a great performance in a great film. Great selections, Elliot!
