The balancing act of comedic farce and sincere social commentary that Preston Sturgess pulls off in Sullivan’s Travels is just amazing. Also I think Harrison Ford would’ve been great as Joel McCrea’s character in a remake

Welcome back Eliot! I’m happy that you are back to posting videos, as I did genuinely miss watching them…Now, the Indiana Jones box is one of the best EVER released to the home market, and Fargo was not only an incredible film, but spawned an equally impressive television series. It seems, after watching these films again, Hollywood has completely forgotten the ART of filmmaking, and simply jumped into the cheap ‘n easy cash grabs.

@@garyharper2943 Heh heh! Good to see you like Elliot's channel too Gary! (And, since you're here, I'll tell you what comment I'd thought of leaving, but decided it was too nerdy for this great channel: A lot of people mistakenly think that The Incredible Shrinking Man was a 3D film because the poster with the scissors looks *so* 3D! Like I say, a bit nerdy and not really a piece of info of interest to Elliot's viewers who are a smart bunch, but a fun fact for the likes of us maybe.)

Great to see your vids start to return Elliot. Some interesting watches there. I love Roman Holiday....I have the US Paramount Presents version. I first saw this movie years ago one summer evening at an outdoor moonlight cinema at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens and have loved it ever since. Absolutely wonderful film and great chemistry between Peck and Hepburn. I have the Arrow box of Hoskins films with Mona Lisa and Long Good Friday. Be interesting to see some reviews of the new Criterion version and if it's significantly improved and warrants a double dip. Same for Shrinking Man (I also have that Arrow version). PS : I'm guessing you're all over the announcement that Criterion are finally going to into 4k? Look forward to your future thoughts (and reviews) on those ! 😁

Veronica Lake is a fantastic relic of the 40's. She made some crime films with Alan Ladd and her peek-a-boo blonde hair style captures her image very well. Her masterpiece was "I Married a Witch" with Frederic March (Criterion) and if you see this, you will never forget the great Veronica Lake. It is interesting that: 1. she was not a great actress. 2. she was actually a bland actress who had a peek-a-boo blonde hair style that was probably more notable than she was. 3. she was beautiful, but there was an almost angelic look to her with her blonde hair and hesitant acting style 4. she made very few movies because I heard she was difficult for her directors and fellow actors. She reappeared (like Betty Hutton) ten years after abandoning Hollywood and people were interested but I believe she died at an early age and never came back to make movies. See "I Married a Witch."

Solaris is the film that got me into Tarkovsky, and it's now one of my favourite movies. Since then, I've seen all his movies and would agree that Mirror is probably his densest. But if you don't try to (over) analyze and understand it, and instead just take in the imagery, it's the kind of movie that stays with you forever. STALKER and Andrei Rublev would also be good intros to his work.

I have a silly question: I'm German but watch everything in English so I know the movies by their original titles. Where do you put a foreign movie in your collection if it's alphabetical?
