Elliot, I'm from Austria, 65, and Your enthusiasm remembers me of myself, when I started collecting movies at the age of about 20. At this time ist was S8, VHS (mäh..), later LDs, DVDs, HDVDs and BDs. Always with the intent to upgrade "only my most beloved" movies (which became of course more and more over the many years) - and at the same time broadening my interests. Now I count about 5000 different movies in my collection (still buying physical media although I do streaming as well). At the end I see myself running out of space and (!) lifetime. So many movies to watch, but so little time left. But: it IS a wonderful hobby. Did I mention, the I collect music too? You are right, it's the best of all times for a collector; I envy You that You can start Your collection with BD/UHD and so many choices of wonderful labels... Enjoy! And: Thanks for a lot of good tipps, You gave me in Your nice videos...

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! It sounds like you have a wonderful collection from decades of film loving. I hope to be here at 65, still enjoying movies as much as I do today. And collecting is a great way to discover new works of art, whether movies, music, books, etc. Cheers!

I really love what you're doing here, both in terms of collecting physical media and the way you structure your videos in terms of the details you explore, both for older films and newer released. As such, this video in particular has inspired me to list my top 10 personal favourite physical media releases in my collection that I am proud of (the only criteria being that it must be 1080P & up--no DVDs). So (in order of importance + rarity) they are: 1.Crash (1996)--Arrow Video restoration (4K ltd. edition/w Poster, art cards & booklet) 2.Ronin (1998)--Arrow Video restoration/w sleeve (I own 2 copies of this; the other is still sealed & looking to sell it) 3.Possession (1981)--Just a very rare-print UK Blu-Ray of an old "Video Nasty" that I paid only £12.00 for 5 years ago. Feel very privileged to own it--especially given the insane markup it currently faces on the 2nd hand market--and anticipate 88 Films/Arrow to remaster it at some point in the future, even though this transfer is more than sufficient. 4.Downfall (2004)--Zavvi Steelbook (in excellent condition) 5.Incendies (2010)--Denis Villeneuve's most underrated film. Currently out of print in the UK; like Possession, I paid next to nothing for this and is now on a much higher markup on the second-hand market. 6.Columbia Classics Vol.1 (I overpaid for this, but not by too much; it's still worth the wait) 7.Columbia Classics Vol.2 (I also overpaid for this one--though nowhere near as much as the first. Not as good as the first collection, but still a damn-good release that I'm very pleased to have gotten my hands on). 8.Blade Runner (1982)--4-disk, 4K ltd. edition, complete with 5 cuts, including: US theatrical cut, International Theatrical Cut, Workprint cut (with the voiceover), Directors Cut, Final Cut & Final Cut on 4K + all of the bonus features ever made & booklet with artwork) 9.The Deer Hunter (1978)--4K ltd. edition/w artcards, booklet, early script, short story it was based on, soundtrack CD, bonus features. 10.Goodfellas (1990)--4K ltd. edition/w hardcase, booklet, art cards & poster

Tinto brass is to the female derriere what Russ Meyer is to the bosom, but with a more cinematic eye. I recently purchased The Train through Kino Lorber's March Madness sale. The last time I watched it was on commercial television many years ago.

Thank you Elliot! Long time subscriber, but for various reasons I haven’t been collecting films on physical media for years. You helped change my mind. More than that, you’ve expanded my knowledge of cinema. It’s a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there, but your videos are a wonderful guide and keep us up to date. I love how thorough you get into detail about the films and features, even encoding issues/artefacts etc. and all the super fine details. That’s what i look for too. I appreciate having a trustworthy opinion to get into the weeds and help decide what’s most worth purchasing. Keep up the great work mate, it’s so appreciated!! Elliot loves Green Ice 💚🧊

The reason why Next Goal Wins took a while to release was that they reshot with Fassbinder replacing Armie Hammer. This was due to the controversy around his lifestyle choices... For what it's worth it's a nice film with a great story. Apparently there is a documentary about the real team and I'd love to see it!
@ElliotCoen5 ай бұрын
Oof I didn't know that Armie Hammer was meant to be in this. I just looked it up and apparently it was Will Arnett's character he was playing. Arnett definitely has the better comedic chops.

I did get 'All that money can buy' after seeing your previous video - really good film, made me think Twilight Zone (and Burgess Meredith in 'Printer's Devil' especially). Only 2 negatives - protagonist's acting was a bit wooden, and the finale seemed rushed - 'A matter of life and death' expanded jury sequence comes to mind as the right length. However, Mr Snatch & Belle were just superb and Criterion restored this excellently. Oh, and Elliot loves Green Ice 😊

@ElliotCoen5 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. It can be very tough, especially when life throws things at you on top of normal commitments. Fortunately, as this channel has grown, I've been able to devote more of my time to watching films. Some days I may watch as many as 5 films in between other bits of work, but I'm probably averaging about 1-2 films a day. Thanks for being here and supporting!
