He waved hello silent like a mime We met, there's no changing my mind I won't walk the stairs with you tonight Going nowhere The clock moved a quarter of a turn The time it took a cigarette to burn She said you got a lot of things to learn Going nowhere Saw you move a certain way Missed you a lot Return to this abandoned place Should a been forgot Echoes drown the conversation out Echoes that only seem to bring about A silent expression Things you may allow Going nowhere The steps made a pattern I'd never seen I felt like a kid of six or seventeen I was off in some empty day dream Going nowhere It's dead and gone matter of fact Maybe for the best Said some things you can't take back Honestly i guess The old records Sitting on the floor The ones i can't Put on anymore He walked over to her like before Going nowhere Going nowhere Going nowhere

Introduced Elliott to a girl I love a lot, she fell for him too. And this is her favourite song by him, now we don't talk anymore because of her, she didn't feel as much as I do for her. I'm playing this song on repeat and hoping that she does the same wearing my ring I gave to her which I made myself.

I met Elliott a few months b4 he died. My friend talked to him, I just stood there kind of speechless. He was sitting by himself and he seemed really shy, but he didn't want to talk about music, he wanted to talk about a foundation against child abuse that he wanted to start.

You have me :) I am so blessed to have found you - think about it - billions of fish (people) in this vast internet ocean - and I feel blessed and fortunate to have 'bumped into you' Beautiful, soothing song! Made me think is it really that bad to be 'going nowhere? - You can still achieve, help others ease their suffering just a bit from exactly where you are in life right now - and the positivity bounces back to you. Going nowhere but doing something - sharing love.

@Aladinside The first album I ever heard from Elliott was "Either/Or" and tears were flowing from my eyes almost immediately. I knew in that moment that I was hearing something really special. After that I went on a mission to buy every album he ever made and each and every one had the same effect on me. His music has changed my life. In my opinion, there never was and never will be another man as talented and unique as Elliott Smith. I only wish he were still alive.

I can understand your pain. I came from a broken family and I tried really hard to overcome my past, but ultimately...I feel like I've failed. I got into trouble with the law a few times a couple of years ago and it's been impossible to find a job. I'm only 29. I did graduate from the local community college this past May, but so far my efforts to turn my life around have proven to be meaningless. Regardless of all this though, I am still fighting for a better tomorrow. Don't give up!

Yeah I'm in the latter category, I find comfort in many of his songs when I'm sad/depressed because I can relate to his emotions, and he's so damn good at expressing those emotions through music. Not that I ONLY listen to his sadder songs when I feel that way. Then there are songs like LA and Son of Sam that you can just rock out to. :D

I'm sitting before my hearth, chilled behind me, warmed in front; it's 4:30 and I can't sleep. As I cradle my legs in my arms, Elliott's words let me bow my head, let me realize that there is no greater purpose, yet at the same time I feel that he understood and I am happy that many others have walked the Earth.

Hi Chris, oh yes there is way to much hate in this world....that word does not exist in my world or vocabulary however sadly it exists ...but i truly believe that there are also so many compassionate, loving, caring and kind human beings out there - some suffering terribly due to isolation, loneliness, feelings of hopelessness, low self worth, and self hate. I am one of them...who can relate to suffering, hopelessness etc...and i have made it my passion to help rid stigma's thank you Chris

Wow, so many people agreeing- that's great Thank You guys! I guess what i was trying to say in that mess up there was, have you met many people who, had little to no ego, and just really did not care about success or popularity or even fitting in? Those are the things of the ego, and Elliott really didn't care that much about those. Sure he wanted lots of people to hear his music, but it wasn't a priority. If you meet 100 people, you will be lucky to find 2, to 3, or 4,(if you're lucky) who are like that. I guess that's pretty much all i wanted to say.

Some people are really hurting and naturally radiate toward Elliott to ease their pain or because they identify with the message and lyrics and music he put across. Please understand them and give them some peace if it is within your possibilities. If it isn't then you know what the skunk's mother on Bambi said right. Well...if you don't .... if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.
