I'd never heard of Elliott before seeing him at this show. Having moved back to AZ from Germany just six months prior, I wasn't familiar with the local or uber-indie music. I didn't expect much because it was at this little record shop and we all had to sit cross-legged on the floor. Wow! It was powerful, emotional, raw and a bunch of other adjectives I can't express. I'll never forget it.

Chord progression wise. Elliott has had sooo few come up to challenge him song structure wise..... I'm still blown away by this song... I studied mozarts require at 11... This man still snags me by the secret collar. All my sorrows, or attempts at death return. Now, though in such a radiant display of mankind's resilience and therefore cause for art. Steve Smith... Probably a name to drift off into Anonimity, until Elliott. Still, almost forgotten.... It hurts to see, hear, know so many around me living in complete ignorance of mans greatest expressions of its own condition...

I've listened to a lot of elliott songs, watched a lot of videos, too. i can't remember a time when he was more buoyant, crisp. each line delivered with certainty. definitely younger here. ideal, even! this is definitely better than the album version.

Just makes me think of all the times I’ve walked down the street listening to Roman Candle, this song plays and then Kiwi Maddog which makes me feel like I’m on a trip. Then condor ave and so on. So fucking amazing...

This used to be my only skip on Roman Candle. Now I’m desperately trying to learn it. Incredibly moving song that gets better as it climaxes, last verse might be one of my favorite Elliott verses

This is the strongest, most righteously I have ever heard Elliot sing this song... as I watch all of the videos posted of Last Call, I notice how both the guitar and elliott's voice get progressively sadder or even more passive. *sniff* Awesome video, thanks for posting.

I love Elliott but he was not a great live performer. I don't think he even enjoyed it. He was a great songwriter/recording artist. I saw him live once and it was pretty bad - he was under the influence. Poor soul with an amazing gift.
@jollesracing5175 жыл бұрын
Antonio Marine it also depends when from like 1990s - 2003 you saw him because the last 2 years were his worst
@kimiajafarinezhad5 жыл бұрын
He didn't enjoy it, but I think he was a great performer anyways, that is part of his performance. He also plays the guitar perfectly on lives, and he land almost sing like the studio version.
@bittermelodies62654 жыл бұрын
+Antonio Marine Hard for me to understand how you could come away from this video with that assessment... those last few years were pretty dire, yeah (I don't know when you saw him, but it sounds like it was post-hard drugs and severe mental illness), but all the pre-2000 stuff I've seen suggests a consummate, impassioned professional. Also worth noting his statement that "I enjoy performing almost as much as I enjoy making up songs in the first place" (in the context of how weird and atypical the Oscars show was).
