My favorite song from Elliot Smith and i don't understand why it is so fucking underrated.

Such a good song. Roman candle has to be the best album ever in my opinion

I have so many memories of doing dope runnin around the streets of chicago high, dope sick, homeless sleeping in a car, you name it! The whole entire time...I had elliott smiths roman candle album playing in the background the whole way..thru the great times and worst times.. Spooky memories trapped in haunting guitar chordes and profound lyrics.. I love it

@@mattoconnell9291 I appreciated reading your comment and even had little visuals appear in my mind's eye as I was reading it - little flashes of a faceless Matt O'Connell roaming Chicago in grey rainy days that gave way to 101 degree city summer's, your roller coaster ride of intense happy and contentment that gave way to desperate disparity in the blink of an eye. Comment sections ONLY for Elliott Smith and Heatmiser music are in a category all by themselves and no other comment section will ever have this special quality. Every one knows how to speak and articulate their feelings and have no problems throwing it out there. Pretty much every where else it's a wild "comment section" jungle of mind games, mediocrity, copy and paste/plagiarism, egos and pissing contests and lots of keyboard warrior "knock down drag out" blood baths and fights to the figurative death. Oh, and mostly big fat lies. I have never come across a comment yet at an ES video where I had reason to doubt the sincerity of the comment poster.

@@mattoconnell9291 I found ES near the end of my being a junkie. It took me a while to get clean and I remember thinking it was the most real music I had ever heard and how it felt like it literally spoke to me. "Needle in The Hay", of course. I ended up on meth a few years later and Elliott was basically all I listened to. The greatest of all time

A very purest thing to say. But, really the feelings conveyed by the title track and this one alone hold more weight than a lot of the stuff released after. No confidence man is my favorite by him, wish that could of found its way onto roman candle.

Something about this 12/31/99 NYE Knitting Factory performance...it's definitely my favorite. Something about the mind-frame he seemed to be in, which I guess sounds silly because I would have no way of knowing, just a feeling...his vocals were great and clear and he was in a special comfortable zone that seemed a little rare for him. It seemed he was satisfied with this performance and it really shows.

I concur. This concert for me is one of Elliott's best. His voice sounds beautifully clear and his guitar playing is excellent. He also seemed to be in a good mood which makes it even better. Just a special performance.

I like how he kinda revises his lyrics on the fly. For example he said 'know that you were thoroughly amused' instead of 'wonder who he thought that he knew' and "it's all here" instead of "you're still here". I might perform that version instead actually as it's a nice change.

Kapin, when I'd gotten to the point of having listened to enough of Elliott's music to pick up his doing this a half a dozen or so times, it made me all the more unyielding in my ardent position to never agree with a fan who pulls out the Beatles comparison card and actually implies the Beatles were better and that Elliott was a close second?? No way. I am mostly OK with the George Harrison thing, however, because that is a whole different game and yes, George was my favorite Beatle and Elliott must have loved George best because he does all of George's stuff justice like no other.

@pancakeslmao202 жыл бұрын
must be tape flutter because you can hear some vocal imperfections and him not hitting pitch perfectly in some spots
