i love this elliott era, he seemed so much more open to new people and a little happier. i wish he could’ve had a few more smiles.

They were actual music fans. Now it’s all reality tv and if it weren’t they still wouldn’t hire folks like this anymore.

I always liked Matt Pinfield. He always struck me as a real music fan. And he actually did his research before interviewing people! A surprisingly rare thing in the music biz.

When you interview Elliott Smith on MTV and you get him to laugh you're doing something good

This goes to show how to interview an artist. Make it more of a conversation dealing with things the interviewee finds interesting and it will be comfortable, entertaining, and will flow. Of course it helps if you are an actual music fan, as Pinfield is. That will give topics in common. Thanks for posting this, it shows that Elliott didn't hate doing interviews, just hated dealing with the same stupid questions over and over. Peace.

Matt Pinfield was great (aside from the "mick" city sons remark) He actually made Elliott comfortable enough to talk which was rare indeed. Phenomenal post! Really rare interview

Secret of music interviews - to get an artist to open up, talk about something they like instead of themselves. They will get more excited immediately.

Interesting fact: the journalist here Matt Pinfield was the subject of the Killers song 'All These Things I've Done' after the Killers singer sat in a bar with him.

I love interviews that are more interest based, just makes the atmosphere so much calmer. It's also better than the same old questions.

I miss Matt Pinfield. He knows absolutely everything about everything musically related ever. This interview is great and he's always passionate about what he does. It was hard to get Elliott to say a lot but he managed to get him to.

Why the fuck have six people posted the same comment about making artists feel comfortable during interviews. Isn't one enough?
@christiangasior4244 Жыл бұрын
I dunno, what I liked about this video was how Matt Pinfield made Elliott comfortable by talking about things they’re both into. But yeah that annoys me so much too.

Its because these people have misunderstanding goin on; they think artists are wounded sentimental creatures that u have to pet gently; and it somehow makes them feel better about themselves, to think they understand the artist so well.
