I too like this song very much. It rarely appears on „best of Elliott“ lists. But it should. Certainly one of his darkest songs though.

Got bitten fingernails and a head full of the past And everybody's gone at last A sweet sweet smile that's fading fast Cause everybody's gone at last And you don't get upset about it No not anymore There's nothing wrong That wasn't wrong before Had a second alone with a chance let pass And everybody's gone at last Well I hope you're not waiting Waiting around for me Because I'm not going anywhere Obviously Got a broken heart and your name on my cast And everybody's gone at last Everybody's gone at last

There's something so captivating about this song it's hard to fully describe. It's got a brooding melancholy that's just so satisfying depsite the heartache in the lyrics. One of the underrated gems on the album.

Elliot is one of the voices that i can recognize anytime, everywhere, like the voice of a dear friend that speaks to you, walking in the street, going nowhere, with the heads full of sad problems. I listen some of his songs every day, since i was 17. Now I'm 37 years old. Sorry for my English, but I have to say something for him, wishing he's still alive. Ciao from Italy.

Your comment is very accurate :) I love this song, and everytime I hear it, no matter what I'm doing at that particular moment, I sit down and breathe, one of the best songs Elliott ever recorded... and it means a lot to me.
@raffy_rodriguez9 жыл бұрын
+Bernardo Parra its a great song to listen to when you feel like your life has hit a complete dead end, your in a rut you can't get out of and there's nothing you can do, its kind of a miserable place to be in but i guess listening to the song makes you feel like well as long as i'm here i might as well make the best of it and smile cause someone made a beautiful song to express exactly how i feel about it, i listen to this song whenever i feel like i hit the bottom most point of my life or my week and i actually just kind of smile and feel good about it in a way, its like wow my life feels this fucked up right now but shit i'm still fucking here, im still breathing and all i gotta do is wait for the weekend so i can get a little escape from it.. i dunno it's hard to express exactly what this song does for me, its kind of a theme song for self pity in a way, but you know.. sometimes you just gotta feel sorry for yourself every once in a while if no one else can feel it for you. my second favorite line is "dont get upset about it, no not anymore, there's nothing wrong that wasn't wrong before" and my first favorite is "hope your not waiting, waiting around for me, because i'm not going anywhere, obviously" it's like the biggest, sweetest, most gentle fuck you to the world and everything that got you into the fucked up situation your in, i feel so good when that line comes in, even if it's a miserable description of myself, it's fucking true and sometimes you just gotta say it and admit it just to remind yourself of exactly who and where you are.. i feel like it's easier to recover from it when you can just be honest about it instead of pretending like you don't feel that way
@NardoParra9 жыл бұрын
+David Vazquez Comepletely agree, It amazing how these songs make you feel good about yourself, even in the worst, most fucked up days! -- That's the magic within Elliott's music.
