I think this is Elliott's manum opus. Nothing else describes depression and suicide as appropriately as 'I'm here today, and expected to stay on- and on- and on. I'm tired... I'm tired.' That's one of the most powerful lines I've ever heard. And I actually prefer these early lyrics better than what ended up on the album, although here he still says 'Still going strong' instead of 'Where we belong'. I wish I understood the symbolism of 'the substitute scene'. I think maybe he's talking about his stepfather, and how his mom is still with him, but then 'where we belong' wouldn't make sense. Anyone know?

I felt like depression/drugs can make everything unreal and surreal. Perhaps a substitute scene

His mom was a substitute teacher I read, but also his abusive stepfather was a substitute for a loving father.

One of the rare performances where he sings "I love you...Mom" instead of "XO, Mom"

Great performance aside from idiots talking while he’s playing.
