The next scene is the most chilling, when he's cleaning the inside out and he sees the flap of skin from the face of the guy he's replacing, laying on the deck staring at him with one eye still attached. That haunts me to this day. This was an amazing movie.

If you know the backstory to the crew, it makes sense why they're being such dicks to Norman. They're all the original crew, fought through North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, France, then Germany. It was quite literally at the very end of the war that one of their own was killed, so they're naturally pissed about the situation and view Norman as the guy that doesn't belong with them. The fact that he hasn't even seen combat doesn't help either.

A think an even more aggravating factor is that Norman is not even formally qualified to be an armoured crewman. He is clerk fresh out of basic training but now has been forcibly attached to a veteran combat unit without the necessary skills acquired in tank school. That kind of external decision making doesn't sow seeds of trust.

@Seth Dean Dude, same the Thin Red is sooooooo boring. Now I've seen slow war movies (Which tend to be my favorite), but the Thin Red Line is so slow to the point that it doesn't make sense. The acting is awful, do you remember that one captain being told he did a good job when his men are getting cut down in like the first battle sequence. That actor made it look like he was shitting his pants all the time and acting like the word "Army" is a made up word. Pisses me off. Couldn't even get through half the movie before I stopped watching and disliked it. They try to push ethics and introduce characters, man I don't even remember the name of the first protagonist we are introduced to. Yet, they thrust you to meet a new one with different struggles and etc... Garbage writing causes the garbage acting, then that creates the Thin Red Line.

Pretty typical how replacements were treated. Because theyre replacing a man who the others trained and fought beside for years, but also because of their inexperience and innocence. Lot of the guys from Easy company talked about how they didnt want to be friendly because they hated seeing the new guys die.
