As a fan, I find it literally impossible to dislike Ross Chastain. I actually LAUGH every time I see that pass. It is literally one of the most insanely ridiculous things I've ever seen. It was a stupid idea that turned out to be pure genius. That one move probably got him more fans than any single race has ever made people fans of any other racer in the history of motorsports.

1 thing about his second big break with the 42 Xfinity car: he got the ride because while he was racing the 4 car, he was also driving people’s motor homes to the track. One of the guys that hired him was the owner of DC Solar. He liked him so much, that he decided to make him his full time motor home driver, and that led to him getting Chip to agree to put Ross in the 42 car for a few races. The Darlington race where he fought with Harvick is really where he first got noticed big time (he was invited to the Dale Jr download after that). Loved the video, just thought that was a good bit to mention.

I love the 2020 Darlington post-race interview because it shows how good Chastain is at the subtle mind games. Referring to Denny Hamlin as a future Cup champion is a back-handed way of highlighting his lack of championships and putting more pressure on Hamlin to go out and win one.

I'm starting to think that the 2020 xfinity series September Darlington finish was almost a foreshadowing of Martinsville in October of 2022 because at Martinsville in 2022 Ross passed Denny Hamlin and he and Hamlin were involved in the 2020 xfinity series September Darlington finish so I feel like a foreshadowing of Martinsville in 2022 was showcased At Darlington in 2020

I grew up a Jeff Gordon fan and quit watching around 2012. Came back at the end of 2020 to see most of the legends retired. Pulled for the Hendrick cars but didn’t really have that one guy you always pull for. Ross changed that real quick into 2021. I watched it all unravel at Martinsville this year live. I remember cursing on the last lap “whelp that’s it he’s fucked” only to see the blur as I started walking to the fridge for another beer. I thought nothing was going to top that COTA win but the Hail Melon will forever be the most insane thing I’ve ever seen live in NASCAR.

I have seen this type of claim made time and time again. And I will also say what I’m about to say again and again. The “Hail Melon” is crazy yes, but it is way to overhyped. Chastain rode the wall to make the final 4 and it had never been done before. There were way more insane moments in just this season. I mean, Kurt Busch retired, and Myatt Snider got his pilots license. The “Hail Melon” is no where near what it is made out to be.
