The led's started blinking before you turned on your ignition. Does it drain your engine?

It does not drain your battery at all. You can plug it in and leave it in your vehicle permanently if you want. It does not drain your battery whatsoever. Your OBD2 port has power to it even if the key is out of the ignition. You will just not be able to run scans
