I’ve had a machine with same Riva bulb in it for over 28 years now, I bought a couple of spares but so far, not blown one.

Thanks, I always enjoy your videos. I get the odd Elna Lotus from time to time to repair, and due to the awkward position of the bulb, I ask my customers if they want to upgrade to an LED lamp. Most do, and it also gives a nice clear white light similar to a modern machine. Wishing you a good recovery 🙂

Just got my Lotus. After the light is on for only 10 mins, the bulb cover gets very hot. Is this normal? What might cause it I wonder? Quickly cools down when the light is stitched off. Doesn't seem at all related to running the machine, just thr light

Just make sure the wattage of the bulb you're using does not exceed the maximum allowed in the machine. If it is within spec then you should be okay. They do get hot if using an incandescent bulb. If you're still worried about it, you could change the bulb for an LED one. Thanks.

As you know I'm an Elna fan, but the SU. Many of my friends who were not really into sewing, but needed a machine for the odd repair, had the Lotus. I am amazed at how many Lotus machines are still around. But the light feature in SU and now Lotus was always a bit irritating With the SU I think I put a screw driver down a hole on top of the machine and pushed the light out, still a bit fiddly. But this Lotus is more fiddly. Can't you put electronic bulb in. Don't know the name, think I did it. And as for bayonet bulbs? Why not an international law for screw in bulbs. Is it the space? Hope you are on the mend, horrible problem, my husband had it. Maybe see if there is a herbal solution. Take care Anita. Ps just saw a demo of a 1950ish Pfaff, fantastic, could I forward it to you?

Is this Elna TX the latest or the best version of The Lotus series?

I have an Elna TX and I have learned that it is part of the Stella and Elnita series. You can find the service manual on E bay. I'd say it's a great "portable sewing machine" (12 x 9 inches). Most of the stitches are for repairs (triple zigzag, overlock, elastic). It does not have a comfy free arm. I would say the Elna Star series (aka Supermatic) is more versatile than the Lotus and Stella.
