First many thanks for the video on the Elna SU...Brill...It got my Mothers old machine working again........now a question or 3 :) The SU is skipping a stitch about ,1 in 20 on both zigzag and straight stitching, any cures?? It is now zigzaging, but it gathers the material (left-right) Can the pressure on the foot be adjusted.I want to do 'stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, but I find that even with a walking foot the 'sandwich' will not feed through without me 'encouraging' it from behind the foot.

i have taken hook bobin out again and this time is has slipped into place a little differenty than the first attempts, and for some odd reason it works iv tryed all the stiches and it seems okay. onese this happens is it ready to go?

Maybe your needle goes down into the needle plate when the feed dog is pushing the material back. Your needle to hook timing can be correct, but your feed timing might be out by 180 degrees. You can correct it by setting the gear pulley 9:40 - 9:41 of the video. When you tighten the gear pulley, check for play.

My Elna super 62C runs fine when cold (first use), but after sewing for about an hour, pushing on the foot pedal revs the motor but does not get the needle moving. I can hand crank to get it started, but if I continue trying to sew once the machine is fully warmed up, then pretty soon neither the foot pedal or hand cranking will make the needle move. Once machine is left to cool for a while, then everything works fine again. Is this caused by a belt warming up & slipping? How can I fix this? Thank you!!

Hi, thanks for the video! My Elna, an older model than yours, although it's running the wheel of the engine when I press the lever (not foot control on this model), the needle takes a long time to start moving and it doesn't catch up with the speed, it's too slow. It's like something is loose that it makes it not synch with the electric impulse. Sorry if my words are not accurate, but I'm not native and have no clue about the functioning or the name of the parts 🙈🙏🏼

Under the position wheel is a standard circlip or e-eclip. holding it. I made a little hook from a hard steel, almost like a dentist tool. You won't get the clip back in again, The clip is not essential as the gap in the body will keep it place. If you remove the clip it will allow you to move the wheel up and down a bit. About 1mm-1.5mm. This will give you enough movement to get fresh oil in or a penetrating oil. Turn the wheel pushing it up or down. This will take a while.

You can see the little clip that needs to be removed at 6:38 and 7:48. You need to get oil on both points of the shaft. I had one that was so stuck that i almost had a blister on my thumb from turning the wheel, but i got it working as new again.

Try selecting a buttonhole to move the lever out of the way and there is a screw holding a spring that can be loosened to access the third screw. Remove the knob off the stitch width lever and with all three screws removed. Look at time part 4:29.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, but I should have said I tried another foot control and had the same problem, so I think it is the capacitor inside the machine that's faulty. I wondered if you could tell me how to get at it. I can't loosen the large screw on the drive wheel. Thanks again, very grateful for your time.

My mistake,On these Elnas it is the interference capacitor in your machine. I'll make a video later today explaining where the fault is.

Hi, Thanks for your help I managed to replace the cam stack gear, put everything in order but it seems there's an adjustment to do somewhere . The needle "grabs" the thread from the bobin case but that's all, no stitches when I press the "pedal".Any hint , please ?I'm so close to making it work again ;-)

I sometime use a hair dryer to warm up the wheel, it is enough to get it moving again. I've used a screw driver to help it up or down while turning the position wheel. (Be careful with to much pressure, you can damage the wheel. The only other way of fixing the stuck wheel is by removing the top shaft as in this video. Not recommended if you can remove the clip and get it unstuck.

I removed the rotary hook when removing a straight pin on my SU. i thought I returned it to the right position, but now the rotary hook is not catching the bobbin thread nor the needle thread. Do you have another youtube video that could show the proper position of the hook, bobbin case & needle position? I watched the "Elna SP ST SU sewing machine repair tips" but could not get a clear view of these. Thanks

If these instruction are not clear I'll set up some extra photos. I assume you only removed the rotary hook and have not changed any settings. (1)Make sure your needle is all the way in. (2) Set your needle position to the far left. (Setting the needle alignment or using zig-zag) (3) When the needle comes up your rotary hook point should pass just above your needle's eye(the closer the better) turning the hand wheel towards you. (4) You'll have to take your rotary hook in and out moving the gear position along till the hook point passes behind the needle eye and it falls into its original position. It's a bit of a pain doing it like this, but you should not have to do any extra settings this way.

Anyone know how to change the pressure foot lifter? My Mom's machine has a broken pressure foot lifter and I found the part but would like to just change it ourselves.

Hi Absolute Sewing, if you're still around, I can't find where to fix my problem: the bobbin winder on top doesn't spin. This problem came on gradually the past years.

You need to oil the bobbin winder lightly and work the shaft loose again. You may need to remove the top cover to get a better grip.

Does the hook point pass just above the needle eye when your needle alignment is set to the far left? If not your timing is too slow.

I added some captions at 4:29, I hope that helps. The plate controlling the buttonhole stitch must come forward to show the third screw. It is done by loosening the pin screw to the right of the third holding screw. The pin screw holds the plate in place.

my elna 800 suddenly began making a squeaking, scraping noise while sewing. now i can barely turn the flywheel manually and the rotary hook is not catching the bobbin thread. i've taken the bobbin case out and cleaned out some fuzz, but to no avail. thanks for any suggestions!

Are we talking about the Elna 800 that is almost the same as the Elna 5000 computer series?

Joanne Lukasik If the needle is scraping on your hook and the timing is out, then is most likely lower shaft drive that is cracked. You can drill a hole and pin it.

I was just given a 72C TSP. The cam is built in, not removeable, and there are no zigzag or cam-related stitches that work. The needle position knob and stitch length dials work, but it will not zig zag or do any of the fancy stitches. any suggestions?

Your needle bar arm can be sticky. You can determine it by turning your hand wheel slowly with your machine set on zig zag. If it moves slowly from the left to the right then it is likely to be sticky. Else your cam drive gear might be stripped as seen in this video. I added a link to another video in my description that should help with the cleaning and oiling of the zig zag unit.

If your pattern cam is not turning with the machine then it is likely to be stripped, but if it does then your needle bar arm probably needs cleaning.

Hello, my Elna SU suddenly started running at full speed without operating the foot control. I have googled and found that it's probably the interference capacitor that's gone. Can you explain where that is and how to get into it? I would be very grateful, thanks.

(My mistake,On these Elnas it is the interference capacitor in your machine)Yes it is most likely your interference capacitor in your foot control. They go faulty and short eventually.(Same as your foot control pressed in). You can replace your foot control with a generic horse shoe foot control or replace the interference capacitor. (About $1 at an electronic shop) If you cut the interference capacitor out your machine will work as normal. Their function is to stop electromagnetic interference with other devices like your TV or radio. You need to remove 4 screws at the bottom of the foot control to access the interference capacitor. In the video description I added a link where you can ask me more questions and I can go into more detail.

A few things could be faulty. The power cord could be damaged or you have a loose connection in your foot control. You can easily check it with a multi meter. Start watching at 10:22.I've not added captions yet. Even if your needle to hook timing is correct your feed timing can be 180 degrees out.(The needle is down when the feed dog is feeding the material through or the feed)The material will push against the needle then.You may not need to do any mechanical adjustments, you can just move the timing chain along 9:30 till your hook and needle timing is correct and maybe a fine adjustments 9:40(Your feed timing should still be good and should be ok)
