for me it dose not matter how sad the lyrics are for any ELO song they allways give me a happy warm feeling.... love ELO even today i listen to them all the time.

Hi 101'ers. Dave from Over There. Really enjoyed this episode, especially as Out Of The Blue is my favourite album by ELO (originally formed by three members of 60s pop group The Move). Saw them on this tour, where the space ship on the cover formed the stage set. Love the Concerto side, and lesser known tracks like the instrumental The Whale. Less keen on Jeff's overuse (imho) of the vocoder. Looking forward to your OK Computer episode.

ELO is a great band and I love the orchestration too ! You might try the Alan Parsons Project also with great orchestration I would listen to I Robot and the turn of a friendly card . I think you would enjoy them

Yes that part of this incredible album was always my favorite section as well. Love love love Big Wheels and Standing in the Rain. Love the hits but I have always like the so called filler songs more at times. Great example of this is the Fleetwood Mac album Rumors. I love the hit songs on this album but I was more a fan of The Chain, Gold Dust Woman and Second Hand News. That was just me. Many times I would like the B side of a 45 more than the A side.

The Beatles had big influence over ELO & also the other way where Jeff has produced albums for all The Fab Four except John, also others like Tom Petty, Roy Orbison. I’m like most ELO fans in that Concerto For A Rainy Day should be listened together. Mr Blue Sky was written by Jeff after being stuck in Switzerland during a storm & then it cleared. One of my favourite tracks is The Jungle. If you listen carefully at the start you can hear a Tarzan yell.
