Mr Blue Sky is the final piece of Concerto for a Rainy Day. Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole suite (studio version).

The "Out Of The Blue" album is such a masterpiece. It is, (imho) Jeff's magnum opus, and I've got all the ELO albums. In almost half a century of listening to ELO, it's never gotten old. Who's Jeff Gwinn? That should answer your inquiry. This was a fun reaction. Thanks.🤘😎❤

Mr Blue Sky is my all time, feel good, go to song. I love ELO. You took the words right out of my mouth with the reference to Bohemian Rhapsody’s switch ups. When I think of the Beatles, I always think of Oasis as a comparison, ELO never crossed my mind but I can hear it now you say it. Thank you for the reaction.

I work at a preschool and for the past 4 or 5 years I've used this as our morning dance party song (along with Electric to Me Turn by Bruce Haack). The kids love it. A friend of mine used to say the Mr. Blue Sky was the illegitimate love child of Sgt. Pepper and Yellow Submarine. (p.s. The video that you watched truncated the piano glissandos at the very end - there are three or four and this did it one time and then straight to the vocoder "Mr. Blue-eye sky.")

I discovered ELO in a box of Albums in a teenage homeless hostel when I was a Homeless teenager in 1986. I fell in love with it and learned every word of that album. I have had it on vinyl. CD and Digital and at 54 it is still a top 3. It is the Rock Opera "Eldorado"!

ELO was one of the very first groups to include strings etc in their LIVE performances. Real innovators of their time.

I had the great fortune to see ELO a couple of months ago in Sacramento CA, one of the stops on their final tour. The opera singer, the back up singers, the electric cellos and violin, the talented drummer, all of it played with enthusiasm to a hungry audience. Outstanding.

I recently went to ELO's Farewell Tour stop in Dallas. It was just a phenomenal show, start to finish and Mr. Blue Sky was the encore. Such a fitting end to Jeff's fantastic career.

Who doesn't know this song! It's been on several movies. ELO was a huge staple in the 70s and I still love them today. Many great songs by them. In performances in later years, women would actually be singing the parts you hear. We don't see that in this particular video. They're great live.

Drummer Bev Bevan has the deep voice that’s featured in few ELO songs. Yes, Mr Blue Sky pulls from a couple Beatles favorites, yet remains a full original. You can hear a clank of a fire extinguisher (yes, really) that sounds like it’s from Penny Lane and an overall piano rhythm from A Day In The Life. The singer with the big hair is ELO maestro and musical genius Jeff Lynne. Do a search on Jeff and you’ll see his deep history in pop/rock music. He was involved in songs and artists that would surprise you.

Jeff Lynne wrote with/for the beatles. He was very involved with the beatles music sound and success. A lot of people contributed to their success without credit.

BTW...that's not a cow bell you hear...it's a small fire extinguisher being hit...they have used it for decades in their live concerts. I this year is the last year that Jeff Lynn's ELO will be touring. I'm 61 and have been a fan of this group since the early 1970s...wish I could have made it to one of t heir concerts. Never seemed to have the time, the money or even the vehicle to get out of my Idaho town and to some other near by state where they usually would play over the years.

I’ve been listening to them since the 70’s ( I’m now almost 70 yrs) up to this day Dec.2024. I’am so excited to be watching Jeff & ELO on July 10,2025 in Manchester, UK, all the way from Sydney, Australia.

Good one, thanks! 👍 Also, about the battle to death of the Jeffs, Jeff Lynne wins hands down, have you seen that big hair? The amount and variety of weapons that can be hidden in there! Also also, now that you've listened to this song I think you might need a vocoder 🤔

You should check out a podcast called “ the history of rock music in 500 songs” from Andrew Hickey. He does a show on “The Move “ the band that would eventually become ELO ( and you should just listen to the pod anyway, it’s great! ) .

love this song, just sounds so happy, puts a spring in your step and a smile on your face. But arnt the lyrics so dated?
@johnbutler56502 ай бұрын
First things first: it’s not the “ electric light “ orchestra. It’s the ELECTRIC light orchestra ( as in a light orchestra - a small orchestra - that is filled with electrical instrumentation ) . This is important - NOT because I am a pretentious wanker, but it explains the music much better. Oh, ELO was named by John Lennon as the spiritual children of the Beatles.
@markabusireactions2 ай бұрын
I’m glad you added the bit about not being pretentious lol, cause on the first sentence I was like, “oh here we go…” 😂😂😂

@markabusireactions you are of course not to blame. You also wondered about the beginning of the video, btw. Many who react to this video - and other videos on that channel - are confused by it, thinking it is part of the song. Moreso here, as the silly "intro" or jingle for the channel uses bits of MBS. Naturally, MBS being the great song it is, it takes some effort to really ruin it. To be fair the video doesn't quite do that. But each time I see it used, I know what to expect. The confusion about the jingle in the beginning, and the missing parts. :-)
