Just for information. No one on Pt2 thought they were ELO. We just went out and played this great music to the thousands, tens of thousands, actually, who wanted to hear it 'live', and had no chance to do so. I also feel no sense of inferiority having mixed this recording, played a little piano, and guitar, and played a big part in bringing this great music to people over the 6 years I was involved. No regrets, regardless of the varied opinions of the zealots and super fans.

Lynne's vocals on the album are stunning, so this suffers from the lack of them, but it's still great to hear this amazing piece of music played by such a fabulous orchestra. Truly, one of the great overlooked albums, and I'm not even that big an ELO fan. It's a perfect record.

And that's why the band was called "ELO Part II". Believe it or not, Jeff Lynne gave Bev Bevan his blessing to carry on without him, but on the condition that he had to call it "ELO Part II", not just "ELO".

@richardkenworthy56045 жыл бұрын
@@nightisright1873 Kelly joined ELO after the recording of the Eldorado album. Live he played the bass guitar and provided back up vocals as well as lead vocals on a number of songs. With ELO Part 2 and The Orchestra he was a key part of the communication with the audience. Those who met him in person tell of what a lovely guy he was. I believe that it was he that contributed the bass line on Last train to London from the Discovery album. He did also the opera singing parts for live performances of Rockaria, which is what you are talking about in your post.

Eric does a very good job with this, very professional. It's not as good as Jeff, but it's at least 80% as good. If the criteria is to sound EXACTLY like Jeff or have the same or better vocal talent than Jeff, he's short, but not miserably so. However, if the goal is to have a good professionally-done vocal that TRIES to replicate the original, it's a 100% good effort & performance by a good singer. He lacks the emotion of Jeff & he's not as good a singer as Jeff, but he's not bad at all.

It makes one wonder, what would have happened to Jeff Lynne if Roy Wood hadn't asked him a second time to join The Move? Lynne wrote some great song in his time with The Idle Race, but they seemed to go over the buying public's head. Would Lynne have soldiered on with The Idle Race?, I don't think so, he was so disillusioned by his lack of success that perhaps he'd have packed in with music altogether and got himself a proper job, who knows? ELO was Wood's brainchild, not Lynne's, people forget that without Roy Wood there would have been no ELO for Lynne to guide to commercial success and become one of the 1970's biggest crowd pullers, filling stadium after stadium. Before "10538 Overture" Lynne had never written a hit single, Wood on the other hand had written seven hits and a #1 with "Blackberry Way". I ask all you older Jeff Lynne supporters, why weren't you buying Lynne's Idle Race records in the 1960's? They were certainly great songs, BBC dj's Kenny Everett, John Peel and Brian Matthew championed The Idle Race. I feel that many of you jumped on the ELO bandwagon after they had commercial success, take it from one who's followed both Wood and Lynne's career from the start, you know nothing, so stop bitching. Apart from Bev Bevan, Lynne treated his fellow ELO band members as employees, full stop, they were simply paid a salary. To Lynne they were expendable , as Wilf Gibson's departure proved. Lynne disbanded ELO after he'd run out of ideas as the dire "Balance of Power" album showed, it was shite. Lynne's fellow band members kept Jeff Lynne's ELO era music alive by playing to millions of fans around the globe after Lynne himself had lost interest in the project. He preferred to be a Traveling Wilbury, under a couple of assumed names, in the process producing a load of twaddle. Lynne's 2001 "Zoom Tour" had to be cancelled due to poor ticket sales, yet The Orchestra were playing to sellout venues "All Over the World", sorry I had to get that one in. Thank you ELO Part 2 and The Orchestra for keeping the ELO's music live in our hearts. R.I.P. Sreve Woolam, Mike Edwards, Wilf Gibson and Kelly Groucutt.

David MacGregor agree with most of what you said but the “jumped on the bandwagon” is a stretch. I’m happy for you that you “feel” a certain way but what your saying is too vague. Where are you citing this information from? Bev was treated differently bc he had a stake in the ELO brand name. Why shouldn’t he be treated differently than say KG... as for the Classic Lineup...dropping each member in time was a loss and it reflects in the mediocre albums Jeff released when he traded Bev in for Drum Machines. Zoom wasn’t even as good as Armchair IMHO. And the last record was even weaker in quality. I wish Jeff well with his hired hands but the Classic 1970’s Lineup is no longer available due to RIPs...so rather than moaning and groaning about it....it’s time to enjoy the music, rather than Face (yea I can play that game too)
