People forget Mr Darcy was prideful from the start. We get to know that Darcy's introverted, but to overcome that; he attempts to act like he's above people. He used his position of power and wealth as an excuse to not explore his social awkwardness. Even surprised Elizabeth when he said it was because "he didn't know anyone of his own party" like, dude! You were still stand-offish instead of polite! I maintain that both he and Elizabeth were both prejudiced. Darcy's prejudice was based on *what he saw* whereas Elizabeth's prejudice was based on *what she heard* i.e. from Mr Wickham. They both had to overcome much of their own stereotypes based on each other, that's how they fell in love so deeply. Jane Austen, you are a genius !!

Darcy in the book is NOT an introvert. He is just so rich and high status that he doesn’t know how to socialize. He’s never had to be nice and polite because everyone kisses his ass. But he’s also loyal and generous to the people he’s close to.
@fandelmazapan6 ай бұрын
I never read the book so can I ask, if he was generous and good but not nice and not an introvert, he was like a good person but rude? A good, extrovert but rude person? Or like nice to friends but rude to strangers? And he was rude because he thought he was superior or because he didn't know how to behave with strangers? If its the last, I think that counts as kind of an introvert. Sorry for the rant Im just confused
@summerreadingnook6 ай бұрын
“I certainly have not the talent which some people possess,” said Darcy, “of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I often see done.” Quote as it was in the book. A case could be made that he was a bit of an introvert, but this film leaned pretty heavily into that idea.
@strngenchantedgirl6 ай бұрын
@@fandelmazapan the concept of introvert and extrovert didn’t exist in the early 19th century. So it’s hard to say how Jane Austen would have thought about this. People were much more concerned with whether or not someone behaved in the correct manner according to their station. So the very wealthy elites like Darcy and Lady Catherine were allowed to be rude because they were so far superior to everyone else. For example Mr. Collins thinks Lady Catherine is wonderful because she “condescends” to be concerned about him. Mr. Darcy is used to people thinking of him this way. The community the Bennetts live in is actually quite strange in that they don’t care for Darcy’s manners. But I don’t think they’re used to having someone of Darcy’s station around. The local manor of Netherfield has been empty for a while and gets rented out. So the local lord is absent or non existent. Darcy is a good person but would be considered rude by our standards but at the time his behavior was correct for his station. The Bennetts and the other locals just don’t seem to like him because he won’t dance with any of the ladies which means he’s not open to marrying any of them. This is the cardinal sin because the opening line of the book states “a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife”.

This is a great edit. This is exactly how I have always read Mr. Darcy’s character. He was not prideful, he was simply an introvert. Elizabeth was raised in a big and busy household, she was very used to being surrounded by many other people. Mr. Darcy only had his much younger sister. Their backgrounds also leads to personality traits.
@animatrix14903 ай бұрын
On my last read-through of the book I also noticed this about his background: Mr. Darcy's mother was the sister of Lady Catherine. Lady Catherine is constantly talkative and shares everything in her mind, to the point of being completely overbearing. I think that could indicate that either Lady Catherine became that way because her sister would not talk, or her sister grew more shy (and complacent in being so) because she knew Lady Catherine would always do the talking for her. In either case, it seems quite likely that Darcy's mother wasn't nearly so friendly or outgoing as his father (Darcy specifically refers to his father as "benevolent and amiable"), and that's where he got some of his introverted tendencies.

My mother used to say that the shy men have the music playing inside….Oh so true!!! I LOVE THIS DARCY…I am an extrovert and married an introvert who pushed himself out of his comfort zone. He became CEO of an ecommerce company. He would lean on me for advice, never made an important decision wo talking to me. We are so very yin yang- So, when he knows I need his diplomacy, he moves in before I say something harsh. I LOVED THIS VIDEO- Bruh had me in tears 😂….Everything item, perfectly placed. I wish I could watch ALL of my movies this way- WELL DONE ❤❤😂😂😂

She should write a character with just those words it sounds amazing if a guy like that existed? If I met one like that? Playing a string instrument is a bonus. Singing his devotion to me would be like a huge WOW.

The commentor’s thoughts echo mine. I have watched this movie many times and never tire of its freshness. That Jane Austen understood relationships much as we do today is a reminder that we humans didn’t just start having meaningful interactions…it’s been going on for eons.

Literally i love the captions on the proposal scene so much. I'm decorating my first classroom and i want to print them out and stick them in my teacher corner 😂 "ur family is lowkey trash" i mean c'mon! Unfortunately I'm not an English teacher where we would even do Austen but that wouldn't have to stop me 😂

Great video - you included all the best bits from this perfect movie I've re-watched too many times to count. Your editing made me giggle too. This fellow introvert appreciates your effort!

Oh, Lord, this was soooo good. This is my watch and repeat movie until I die and you did it proud. I laughed too hard at poor Mr. Darcy while totally relating with him because I am also a hopeless introvert. While at the same time relating to Elizabeth because I'm a woman. Thanks for making this. Much LOL!

Reading the introvert commentary helps me to understand the movie. There were some body language n signals i didnt catch when i saw the movie. You have to really pay attention!
