Elon Musk discussed the release of the Twitter Files on a Twitter Space telling Kimdotcom that journalists and media members unhappy with the release shouldn't point fingers at Taibbi, but should look inward: "Instead of trying to redirect blame to Matt Taibbi, they should be accepting some responsibility themselves for not being truthful to the American public."

Both of those companies, Tesla perhaps moreso, exist thanks to massive government subsidies. Tesla would have gone bankrupt if it hadnt been for the huge infusion of cash thanks to the obama administration's support of "green" tech companies and the sale of carbon credits between car companies. SpaceX recieves massive government subsidies and favorable contracts with the defense industry. Neither company exists due to the "genius" of Elon, hes just on corporate welfare funded by the US taxpayer.

For a guy who made his name through literally risking his life (with Mark Ames) doing *real* (albeit snarky and fun) journalism, publishing a truly outrageous English-language print magazine (it went online-only years ago, before Taibbi left) in Moscow (the eXile), ridiculing the kleptocracy of that city... (Seriously, look it up online. They got away with openly ridiculing Russian mobsters and other oligarchs, both inside and out of the Russian government. They also ruthlessly demolished the "state media" - "journalists" and executives alike, both employees of actual Russian government media and supposed "independent actors" who were paid by the Russian government to cover things favorably... It was a public service, and it has no peers - no one has even *tried* what they did since. (Continuing "for a guy who...") ...and who could have easily followed his father - a longtime NBC reporter and producer (Which, as someone who tried as hard as possible to have a career that my father couldn't boost in any way, I completely understand. It has always been really important to me to not be seen as an extension of now-deceased father) into *that* world, it's incredibly disappointing to see him join the clowns on Substack, speaking power *for* power, truth being optional. He seems to have just given up on the whole thing - I won't even speculate as to why, but it's really sad. The eXile was *amazing* . Truly awesome work. I should clarify that he's not "reporting" anything - he's behaving as a publicist. As a longtime fan of Taibbi's work with the eXile, it's just kind of sad to see him being just another guy who spreads messages for powerful people... To his credit, he included context and honest conclusions - I don't see anything *wrong* with doing work like publicity (and what he's published has been honest), but I vastly prefer people who work *against* the powerful - and Matt Taibbi was one of those people for a long time. That said, I don't live in the US - perhaps that's why I don't see things the way others might... I definitely don't advocate censorship (including self-censorship) for any reason.
