Tesla is not within a year of a viable robot-taxi. A robot-taxi absolutely will get approved with a steering wheel before without one. It isn't in production yet. And FSD is too cautious to get through an intersection while classes change on a college campus - there are simply too many pedestrians in a big hurry and it won't get illegally aggressive to force the kids to let it get by like a real human would. So don't hold your breath. It is not a question, it is just plain not more than an announcement this year. Forget the car other than hand made prototypes for awhile.

I never liked him, because it was clear, he was overrated, and talks about things, he doesn't understand, and makes promises, nobody could keep. Like his talks about science and Mars. He's a slick salesman who uses a lot of tech- or better tech-SOUNDING talk to create the idea that he actually knows what he's talking about. He even goes as far as calling himself an engineer, when as far as I can tell he never graduated as an engineer. You've got to give him that he's managed to build quite a cult-following, that has seen his businesses get overinflated to plain ridiculous proportions. But as he's proven with Twitter/X, he's NOT a savvy businessman, as Twitter/X has devalued enormously during his ownership. But then his crazy remarks, empty promises and always overpromising and underdelivering have also devalued Tesla and The Boring Company quite significantly. And now there are more and more signs that his whole hyped up imperium is crumbling, mostly due to his erratic behaviour, continuous habit of overpromising and underdelivering, the disaster that is the Cybertruck and the fact that Tesla now has many serious competitors, whereas they used to have an almost monopoly on luxury and powerful EV's.

Not true at all. There are MANY legit criticisms of Musk, but several companies will recycle batteries. A few are: Redwood Material, American Battery Technology, LiCycle, BASF and others.

What needs to happen is that the cells really need to be optimized for recycling from the beginning. The current cell designs are hyper focused on energy density which compromises both safety and recyclability.

In Germany, in August 2024, Tesla sold 2370 cars, making the 20th place. There were more Minis sold than Teslas. On the other hand, Tesla's stock price seems completely decoupled from the sales numbers; it is basically the same as one year ago, and has recovered from a few lows. It does not make sense to me, and I believe Tesla stock is overvalued by an order of magnitude, but the bubble has not yet popped. I think there is a high probability Tesla might go bust and Elon Musk may find himself in prison when that happens.

You know I'm all for having transport more friendly to the environment but has anyone gone to these mining sites where lithium is extracted from ,these area's like a lot of other mining sites are an absolute mess ,the alarming thing about this is none of these sites ever get put back the way they were before the mine was there ,they sell it on as is and then they get shut down and an absolute mess is left behind, so when I hear clean green energy it's not so clean afterall, they just hide the toxic waste at these mine sites fact. Making cheap cars it not very profitable. It's one reason GM and Ford stopped making them. Labor overseas in CN/JP/KR are all lower and this is where affordable units are made and shipped from. Only affordable US-made sedans right now seem to be Honda Civic made in non-Union factories.

Could driverless cars be more immediately useful in extensively, intensely mapped downtown areas where only interconnected vehicles, communicating with each other, are allowed? Existing parking structures could be used as the base for the robots, ferrying people to and from secured parking facilities built in outlying areas, never leaving their areas. Cities desiring a vehicle free area would require some similar system for travel inside the area, mass transit is time consuming, and development of FSD tech could still be advanced while beginning to pay for itself. I’m told actual 5G will be required so there’s that. Why? Cities are extremely toxic to the people who live in them. The primary issue now is vehicle exhaust. If this is doable it’s worth it. The biggest obstacle may be getting people to buy in, it requires being without your horse, an uncomfortable prospect for most people.

Everyone is always talking how tesla model Y is top seller but in overall sales in E-Cars sales they are still behind VW at least in Germany and Switzerland. Tesla had a massive lead in Market share in the past because no one sold EV`s but that switched fast, if Tesla were truly the Best they would still be at the Top. I have 5 friends that have a Tesla and 4 out of them would never buy a Tesla again and some are even thinking of switching to ICE again because they never had a Car with so many Issues. Tesla is selling only because of a Trend and not of Quality or that they are better than others. Anyone that says their Tesla drives good neither has driven a other car or they just don't wanna accept as real. Some Storys that are floating around are just scary as hell, like that the breaks are failing/overheating if you drive a mountain road down fast with only normal breaking or on the Track.

I was never a fan of him or the electric cars he made. Later I did like him more but that was because of SpaceX. I know that electrics are not a good answer for emissions since it still takes coal and diesel to get the materials for the Battery which has a dropping rate of charge overtime, along with many other issues including being way too expensive. I agree I don't think the robo-taxi will not work since many states will not sign off on it and may not let those cars on the road its going to take them even more years even if the car seem to be working correctly. All it takes a a robo-taxi wiping out some people or drive into a business and it will be lawsuits and party over for it.

xAI is joke as far as LLMs, big three are OpenAIs GPT, Anthropics Claude and Metas LLama. That whole "grok" thing is a gimmick "based" chatbot that is not even in competition and btw it stole name of actual AI project... As for OpenAI, I expect them to fail ATM. Things may change but GPT 5 is late, 4o is basically just professional human training and a specific prompting technique combined - model itself does not seem to be better. It could be that all the talent left cos of Altman's behavior, but also could be that LLMs are hitting the wall as technology. They do amazing things, but likely won't be able to overcome their limitations just by upscaling, which is super expensive. Things will be clear in a couple of months, either way, Musk is not in the race. Since LLama is open source, any model behind them is basically irrelevant, so it seems that ATM it's three models competing.
